No it shouldn’t go out yearly. They are usually good for 100k to 200k miles. Chances are pretty low, that if the MAF wasn’t installed improper, you shouldn’t need to replace it after a year (in my experience).

You can clean your MAF at any point (even if your engine light is not on) it won’t hurt… but my rule of thumb is… “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” 😂

Detrone, excellent video. I have a question for you. I have a 2012 Rogue with a MAF problem p01 01 code. The Nissan dealer replaced the MAF. I replaced the air cleaner. I did not replace the PCV valve yet. The dealer I go to tells me they cannot fix the problem any more than they have because they do not have a Master Technician??? I am going to have to travel a ways to get a dealer with a Master Technician. The engine light has gone on twice now. It is supposedly fixed now. If not and the light goes on again and the car seems to run fine I want to turn off the engine light. I purchased a Walmart Hyper Tough HT 100 code reader. It is not much on instructions. It connects with your phone via Blue Tooth to give an explanation of the code. I do not need an explanation and I just want to turn off the engine light. My question is, do I have to use the Blue Tooth feature with the HT 100 or can I just plug it to the plug in the car, turn the ignition to on, read the code, and push the red button to clear the code?? You can clear the code right from the screen on the Hyper Tough device. My guess is you’ll see that engine light and those codes again though. My Murano now has the engine light back on but it will intermittently go away also, and that was after I replaced a torn boot and replaced the MAF as well. If it’s running fine, and you just don’t want the engine light… the HT100 will do exactly what you’re looking for without needing the Bluetooth functionality.

I accidently broke the lever on the side trying to detach the top portion from the MAF. I pressed it in trying to remove it but it wouldn't come off and broke. Any ideas?

No, just make sure your vehicle is off while you do it, but no need to disconnect the battery

Hey have a nissan tiida 2007 tiida, turns on for 10 seconds or more then turns off . Any idea if its the maf sensor or something else? Ive changed the ignition coils

That could be several things including the Mass Air Flow sensor since it does measure air entering the engine, and if that is off it can cause the vehicle to stall. Replacing the MAF sensor is probably a good next step. Do you have any engine codes currently?

It really depends on how much of it you spray on there. The cleaner dries pretty quickly... So anywhere from 30 seconds, up to 5 minutes in my experience.

Did you change the mass air flow sensor or cleaned it? If you replace it, I do believe that Nissan suggest that you have it reprogrammed/Relearn process... That part I am less helpful with.

Hello my 2012 Nissan Versa completely went out on me. now a little backstory.. I’ve had the car for 3 1/2 years and when I got it I didn’t really keep up with it how I needed to , my 3rd coil and spark plug went out about a year ago, said I was gonna get it fixed but never got around to it, which threw on the check engine light, so about 3 months ago the car completely went out , no type of electricity at all, got a new battery, no power still, got coils and spark plugs for all 4, got new MAF sensor, now it’s power and drives but it stalls at idle and it had a rough idle a while before this happened what should I do? I miss Birtha (my car) 😂😂

There are a list of items that could potentially cause what you are experiencing… Is the MAF sensor installed correctly, since issues with the MAF can cause rough idles and stalling, but so can a bad fuel pump or bad fuel injectors. Do you still have a check engine light and if so, what are the codes? If it’s MAF related but you installed the MAF correctly, could have a vacuum leak of some sort especially if you addressed the coil pack issue.

No you do not have to disconnect the battery, just do not start your vehicle while you have your mass air flow sensor out of the car.

As an update… I cleaned the MAF sensor and the light eventually came back on. If you replace your MAF sensor with a new one, you will have to do an “Idle Air Relearn” on it, which is usually something you’ll have to take it to the dealer for (unless you have a really good scanner at home). There are a number of other reasons for that light to be on also… Hopefully cleaning it will help you. Thanks for watching!
