Hey, I LOVE your videos !!!!! I sit and watch them every night. In this video, you gave a link to your 1100 grates from Amazon. I just bought a Pit Boss 820 a week ago and have cooked on it every day since and love it. I always go to your site for tips and how to use this thing and It's truly helped me, so Thanks for all your work.... Now my question, for my 820, do you have or know of a link for the grates this particular pit I have ? Would love to change over to the stainless grates instead of these ceramic factory grates...... Thanks man and keep the videos coming !!!!!!

Thanks Rico! Unfortunately I do not know which grates would fit your pit. What I did was measured the size of the grates in my Pit Boss and then went to Amazon and found a stainless steel set that was the same size. It actually turned out that they were a tiny bit bigger, but it didn't affect it they still fit. Hope that helps, thanks for all the love.

@@1526BBQ Thanks a lot for the response. I've looked at every grate I guess Amazon has, the maximum size I can go front to back is exactly 19 inches and the closest Amazon has is either 17 inch or 19.5 inch.... Was going to call Pit Boss support tomorrow to see if they offer a stainless upgrade set...... Thanks again for your videos and explanation of these pits.

Great video. The other thing I would add is pulling the whole hopper feeder out of the barrel on an annual basis. The grease that builds up under that is no joke.

Wonderful information. I'm getting ready to add a Pit Boss Pellet Grill to my lineup. I already have a Pit Boss Pro Series upright smoker that my husband bought for me for my birthday a couple years ago and I love it. The new grill will allow me to smoke smaller batches (fish or small roast) instead of firing up the big boy. Can't wait!

Line with heavy duty foil change as needed
@1526BBQ
@1526BBQ Жыл бұрын
Yeah a lot of people do that, and I should do it too for the sides of my pit. In the center where I can open up to exposed flame having aluminum foil could release some toxic gases so I'll probably skip that part. Thanks mark, and thanks for watching!

You should make a downloadable checklist that can be printed. Put your logo and website on it or this channel's address or even a QR code on it to take it to a recipe channel or whatever. It would drive more traffic and give people something tangable. I plan on taking what you said and laminating it to hang with my grilling stuff.

what i do is wrap the whole flame shield with foil. After a cook just take off the foil and it's clean ! rewrap it again with foil! also, degreasing the pit boss outside is not a good idea. I actually spray vegetable oil on the outside because oil prevents rust and it seasons it for better rust protection.
@1526BBQ
@1526BBQ 3 жыл бұрын
Ive heard of the foil technique, but not the exterior greasing... Do you find that that lead to a lot of build up on the outside??

Do you ever have any issues with grease dripping from the chimney? I continuously clean inside and chimney, however it’s starting to drip a lot from the attachment point and the top cover.

Great video's. I also have the Pit Boss 1100 pro. Have you looked into the Smoke-it controller by pit boss? Being looking for pro's and cons of it.
@1526BBQ
@1526BBQ 3 жыл бұрын
In have not. I might swap it out when my current controller dies - but at that point it might be time for a new smoker! I've heard it takes some time to get up to temp (but that maybe an bad controller), but other that that nothing but good reviews. My buddy Kevin over @mankitchenrecipes upgraded and did a review - you should check out his channel. Man Kitchen Recipies

After cleaning do you ever add pellets to the fire pot? I have a Austin XL that lights on low and a other pit boss model that lights on high. Sometimes after a clean it fills the pot with pellets before it lights. Smokes like a train and gets super hot when it finally lights. But if I add pellets after cleaning this usually doesn't happen. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this.
@1526BBQ

I have not. Normally, for me, the auger runs and fills the ash pot while the ignitor heats up.

@@1526BBQ Thankfully I was there when it flared up. I got the turkey off and it flamed out fairly quickly. I dumped the contents of the hopper.I was nervous the fire was going to ride up the auger and burn out the whole unit. I'm not even sure if that's possible

I have the Pit Boss Pro Series 850, which has the same curved flame guard as yours. I’ve had people tell me I should put aluminum foil on it to catch the drippings and make clean up easier. Would you recommend this?
@1526BBQ
@1526BBQ 3 жыл бұрын
I've never done it, but it makes sense that it would make clean up faster and easier. The only issue I would have if I ever did it myself would be putting aluminum foil over the Flame Broiler portion. When thin aluminum foil is exposed to an open flame it'll melt or vaporize or whatever happens to it. I'm not entirely certain but I believe that that produces toxic fumes that would then be introduced to your food that you're cooking. So if I were to ever do it on my grill I would probably just do it to the left and to the right of the flame broiler therefore not risking any potential issues.
@bradrot991
@bradrot991 3 жыл бұрын
If you are cooking low and slow and have the flame plate closed, using foil is fine and makes clean up a snap.
