Have you tried using a sabitoru soaked in water and rubbing alcohol? with kangaroo
@Iheartknives15 ай бұрын
I haven’t but I would be worried the sabitoru eraser material would embed itself into the leather. I guess it would depend on the leather too. The smooth side of the leather is glossy enough it would probably work well. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks for your tip!

@@Iheartknives1 amazon sells a red one and white one use the finest one the red one won't damage it. or 3m sandpaper the carbine wwet or dry brand with horsehair brushes and abrasive erasers is safest but expensive way
@nikobobich97265 ай бұрын
@@Iheartknives1 3m silicone carbide sandpaper (wet or dry), horse hair brushes and abrisive sticks is the safest but very expensive.. no cream additives or polish compounds to clean the leather is the best way possible but sabitorus work if on budget

On veg tan strop especially fuzzy side I'll use alchohol then an old file! Makes your old strop perform like brand new. I dont like sand paper because it will embed in the leather!

Hi, Mike, I'm reluctant to use too much alcohol, in case it affects the glue, used to stick the leather on, ! Have you had any experience of the leather lifting, after a thorough cleaning with the alcohol, ?? All the best bud,, .
@Iheartknives14 жыл бұрын
John Waddington I haven’t had any issues with lifting after using alcohol. Your mileage may vary. I also don’t use a lot of alcohol to clean it. I think if you soak the leather and it doesn’t dry out quickly it may weaken the bond. Also depends on what adhesive you use. Worst case if it did come undone you can always reapply the glue. But I’ve never had any issues with my strops.

Hey mike what would u use to clean and condition a buffalo leather backpack??? I got 1 for xmas and . Thank you for showing how to clean the kangaroo strop!!!! Still loving your channel! Great reference channel!

dom bond id use saddle soap to clean it and then let it dry overnight and condition it with some Fiebings neatsfoot oil and then Fiebings Aussie conditioner. The color will DARKEN! If it’s black it won’t matter but any other color will get 2-3 shades darker if you clean and condition it. Hope this helps man. There are a million ways to do it. This is just one way to do it.

@@Iheartknives1 yup. I gotta figure something out. It's a lighter brown so I dont want it to dark but if its gotta be its gotta be!

When and why to clean a strop and future use ie same compound? Why not just let the swarf and compound mix in future? Does a clean strop work better?
@Iheartknives14 жыл бұрын
Steven Lachance at some point the strop will get so dirty and thick with compound/steel that it won’t be as effective. It takes a while to happen though. If the compound is too thick on the strop you can get slightly more convexity to your edges. I made this video for a subscriber not because my strops were actually dirty enough to clean. I could have kept using them for another 3-4 months before needing to clean.

Mick Keim you mean for balsa wood or bass wood?

iheart Knives ...I was thinking sand paper.
@Iheartknives14 жыл бұрын
Mick Keim if it’s just a cheap piece of wood I would replace it or I’d use a block plane to resurface it. Sandpaper will work just be careful not to embed the wood with sandpaper particles because whatever grit you use can stick into the wood and contaminate the strop surface. That’s why I don’t sand leather strops either. You have to be careful not to get sandpaper grit in the leather just like wood.

I use "Goop" to clean strops. It's a cheap hand cleaner and does a great job. "Goop Hand Cleaner and Laundry Stain Lifter Remover, Waterless, Non-Toxic and Biodegradable, Removes Grease, Grass, Tar, Blood, Paint, Dirt, Mud" and cleans strops.

I'd recommend lighter fluid. When I tried it, it didn't dry out my strop but it felt soft like new. Probably because the petroleum base the lighter fluid is made out of.

They no longer make neets foot oil in the same way they used to, if you look at the history of neets foot oil you will see how different it is ,I use neets foot oil due to the oil having the less water content in it, most people don`t realise a lot of oils can contain water,

Ok good to know. It still works incredibly well on leather though.
