John Paul Dove I’m on it! Stay tuned. Let me know if you’ve got any specifics you wanna see! Also, there’s a level on my Patreon that makes you the producer/executive producer of the channel for a week out of each month where you can choose the content you wanna see! Haha just an FYI! Thanks for watching, John!

What is the background song you are playing. It's quite catchy and I end up getting it stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

This may be a stupid question, but whenever I press play or record on the 414mkii there's a hum/whine (kind of like a quiet vacuum cleaner sound?), and it's also on the playback of what I just recorded, so I assume it's getting recorded right into the music. Is that normal? Any thoughts on what it might be? (I just cleaned everything, I'm using the right kind of tape (II). I'm thinking is the machine just noisy, or is it related to power (using a 9V AC gtr pedal power supply which is what the person who provided the machine told me to use)?) Thanks! Your channel is a blessing for this analog newcomer :)

Hi, Belle, there's definitely some noise with the machines but I just googled tascam 414mkii power supply and it looks like the one to use is a 12V one. I would discontinue use of the 9V one for now! Check out eBay. It looks like they are between 8 and 14 USD. Thanks for watching! I'm glad to hear the vids are helping!

Change ac adapter. Adapters that output less than 414 demands whine.

Just noticed on mine that when fast forwarding a tape, the fast forwarding speed suddenly becomes really slow. Will cleaning the machine like this help? Or is there another thing I should be aware of?

Ive been using Isopropyl Alcohol 99% on my pinch rollers for more than 20 years although it may have some tiny crack's now age will kill it just the same.So i wouldn't worry at all about it touching it, it evaporates so fast i figure it hardly has time to dry it out. Now what i do is put just a bit on a Q tip so it just can help take off the residue not douse it like i did when i was young lol.Nothing is going to last forever and the main thing is to get as much use with it as possible.
@424Recording6 жыл бұрын
Good stuff, christopher. I agree 100%; nothing lasts forever. You do see in some of these older machines the pinch rollers completely dried out which seems to just happen with time. I think the most important thing is to use the gear you've got and if you're not using it, move it along. Yeah I think if you're carefully and don't saturate it, it'll last a long time and be super clean at that!

Hey Mike, could you explain what the tape cue switch is for and how is used? I read somewhere that it helps to minimise bleed but I just don't get how is used...
@424Recording6 жыл бұрын
Sends the signal from the tape on a different path so you can monitor what you recorded without worry of accidentally rerecording what you've already recorded when you add a track. I'm not sure exactly how it works but when you use tape cue, what you're hearing is independent of the recorder section of the machine so there's no way it can be rerecorded or bleed into what you're currently recording. Does that make sense?

So, don't soak the whole thing over night in lukewarm water? Got it!
@424Recording4 жыл бұрын
I had a friend who used to clean computers by soaking them... as long as he let them dry out completely before turning them back on, it worked. But yeah, I wouldn't do that with these haha

Never used one in a 4-track... I'm not sure they will work? Have you used one?

Never used one. I was considering it out of lazyness but i dont think its worth spending money on.
@424Recording6 жыл бұрын
Probably not. Easy enough to clean with alcohol (and water for the roller)
