If you go to the “Mixer” section, then “Phones Main Sel” - choose “Main Mix Pre” instead of “Post” and now you can enjoy an independent headphone mix without using up your sub outputs! Long time fan of the music and videos… cheers!

Hey thanks so much for this video. I'm thinking about a Model 12 and how it could work with my Apollo Duo. So the way yours is routed into the stereo channel.. how would you go about multitrack recording with it? Can you assign the line in to record to different tracks as you work? Or would you need to physically switch to the line in to other mono channels as you go? Also, is the excellent preamp quality of the Apollo being degraded by passing it through the pre amps of the Tascam before being recorded onboard or in the DAW do you think?

You had said the M 12 is like a 4-2-4? I was under the impression it had 8 outputs that could be used as DAW controller?

Just a warning to people. I just followed these instructions and now my machine won’t work anymore. I’m not saying not to do it… just be careful? Immediately after cleaning (still in cleaning mode) mine stopped playing. And now the tape heads won’t emerge or anything in non cleaning mode. It will attempt to play for 1 second and stop, with a subtle “power down” sound.

Can I plug bass cable straight in and play with headphones

Why not using digitakt as midi slave to the mixer that has midi out with sync so you start of the recording will concide with the start of the pattern from the digitakt?

also dumb question but if I mixed on my portastudio with the panning nobs and adjusted the eq and such, will I be able to hear in stereo with all the panning and eq adjustments I made? As opposed to everything down the middle

I have the portastudio 424 mark 1. It doesn’t have a line out switch that can switch to mono, is that an issue or anything?

I overcame this issue by just running my monitors from the subs and leaving the mains empty so the main fader is just for the headphones. I actually currently run like this: Everything is running through a Zoom L-20 and I use monitor outs E & F to Tracks 6 & 7/8 for mono or stereo recording on the Model 12 and pong tracks 7/8 to 9/10 and Track 6 to any of the mono tracks and keep recording in the same tracks 6 - 7/8. No wire swapping and I can record in either machine depending on whether I'm syncing MIDI or using live drums later.

I always heard you are supposed to start with the gain knob and work down. Set the channel to PFL mode, set gain to about -6db on the meter. Then you bring up your channel fader and finally the main fader

Commenting out of desperation. When I do a mix down of my whole drum kit within the model 12 to an sd card (completely DAWless) it’ll sound great in my headphones, but when I go and listen to the same mix (.wav file) on my computer, it sounds like junk. Does anybody have any insight? Is it an sd card issue? Not sure what I’m missing.

So when you hit "save" after final mix, what is next? The device at this point saves the individual tracks used. How do you save the song (without using a DAW) as one file to convert to a different format?

For me the beta 58 and beta 57 are far better than standard sm 58 for singing. You don't have to fatigue your throat and vocal cords with those mics. I own all of them and put away the sm58 for my regular gigs.

Hey there, just wondering who you recommend for cassette recorder servicing? I have the 424 mkiii as well and I want someone to look it over and bring it back to life so it can operate at its full potential.

Am I the only ear, that instantly repulsed on the rhythm guitar sound? My God man. Distorted by too loud or crap pickups, or speaker flub. Damn. Lyrics seemed juvenile deliquent. Focus on describing the M12 function's please, and spare us the song, which really prompted me to desire to throw my device out the window. Good job though, on going thru some of the get going now procerdures. Had to increase playback speed to 1.5, or I would have killed myself.☠️

I pulled the usb out and it striped and riped out the board with it ? I don’t know how I managed to do dat ? So be careful , 😮 just leave the lead it alone? Inleast I can still you the sd card and make use of it .I’m just gonna record the Mpc stems manually too the mixer and plug in a mic and have fun 🎉 and get a guitar 🎸 and base soon
