Thanks man. My 77' RM370's carb has been untouched for 40 years. Used this video to help me out.

My rm 250 lost most of its torque in 1st and 2nd, cant chug the hills in 2nd and 1st is a real issue too. Going to try this cleaning method, inspect reeds, dump fuel, and replace spark plug.. Im not exactly a fix'r upper but this video is giving me the confidence.

Did you ened up finding a fix? I bought a 1990 kx125 and once you hit 3rd gear it has good power but 1st and 2nd gear is weak.
@derek31072 жыл бұрын
@@cloutdoors5674 yes, rebuilt power-valve with new spring, bought new silencer. I think that was the combination that worked, its back to normal. Bike had lost back pressure to build torque and was rapping out super quick in my opinion. Problem is definitely fixed.

Really great video! Any chance you could do a video of a step by step walking up to the bike and showing what to take off and what not to take off for us non-mechanically inclined newbies? Got my first KTM (1999 200mxc) and I'm learning from vids like these.

Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback. I was planning to do a video about jetting the carb at some point so I’ll definitely include the removal process in the next one.

Thanx. My '73 Kawasaki 90cc G3 is running a little rough and I think I need a carb cleanup.

Great video. How often would you say the carburetor should be cleaned? For a 2 stroke motorcycle engine being used daily
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes Жыл бұрын
I’d only clean it if it’s having a problem. If it’s plugged up or has flat spots. The premix stabilizes the fuel so it shouldn’t gum up the carb on a two stroke. There’s no need to take it apart excessively.
@stoicchillz35392 жыл бұрын
I ride Honda 4 stroke, picked up a yz85 and it bogs itself out in first n second, and sometimes if you’re not pinning it, really. Gonna try to clean the carb and check the reeds, hopefully that works😬 fresh fluids and spark plug already
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes2 жыл бұрын
Cleaning the carb is the best guess. Might be jetting, but I'd start with a clean.
@stoicchillz35392 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes so I did, carb was already clean and I still cleaned it. Still just lacking power. Powerband feels like how the bike should feel outside of it, and outside the powerband just feels like it’s dying. Previous owner ran 40:1 I did 32:1 idk if that’s possible to do that much, and then I was wondering if a bad water pump would effect the power? Oil was a nice grey/silver when I changed it day after I got it😬

You usually can’t tell visually if a carb is plugged so that’s not too surprising. It could be a plugged jet but it’s hard to tell without being able to see it. How does the air filter look? It’s choked off somewhere and if it’s not fuel then it’s probably air. The air filter would have to be pretty dirty but I’d definitely check the reeds. Also potentially a plugged up exhaust system could reduce the power if it can’t expel the exhaust. You might also look at the petcock or if you have an inline fuel filter that might be plugged.
@stoicchillz35392 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes put a new petcock on, filter is on there. Not sure about exhaust, I pulled the reeds when I cleaned the carb and the flaps seemed fine, the outside part that connects to the carb (not sure what it’s called) but that rubber gasket side is a little dry rotted but can’t see that doing this. Air filter is dirty I’d say but doesn’t seem like awful, I’m gonna try a new one and 40:1 gas today after work

@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes is it possible that the jetting was particular for warm weather? I am trying to run it in 30-40 degrees but the bike gets warmed up, history of the bike was it used to be a race bike and then just a kids bike for trails, then me. So maybe not really ran in the cold?🤷♂️

Great video. How do you know what torque the jets and fasteners should be tightened too? Looks like you just tightened them by feel. I’ve striped that KTM magnesium alloy once.
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes Жыл бұрын
I tighten them by hand. There’s probably torque specs if you’re worried about it. I find with these aluminum fine threads the torque is a lot less than you’d think.

Is there any other spray I can use instead of carb cleaner like wd40 I don’t know just using as an example?
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes Жыл бұрын
Most cleaning solvents should work. Like I've used brake cleaner before. WD40 is a lubricant so its less likely to clean out the jets. Your really want something that will break down the oils and build up from the gas.

Running with choke on but bike is dien after I enegae first gear and let out clutch 97 cr250
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes2 жыл бұрын
Once the bike is warm, you can't run it with the choke anymore. Idle speed needs to be set with the choke off while the bike is fully warmed up.

They should I run an inline fuel filter on my 2 stroke
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes2 жыл бұрын
It might help keep stuff out of the carb. I’ve done it both ways and to be honest I have yet to plug up a carb without running a filter. Not sure how big of a difference they make.
