I never run mine dry. I always leave about 200ml behind and clean it after every run with a soft sponge, a little dish soap and water. It takes few minutes. I'm sure I'll have to use the citric acid one day, but not any day soon.
@AG-he8uj Жыл бұрын
How do you do this if you don’t have a timer socket, can you do it manually ie turn it off yourself and leave how many ml behind ?
@Zyzigy Жыл бұрын
@@AG-he8uj I have marked a level on my collection jug and just keep checking on it. Once that level is reached I just switch it off.
@AG-he8uj Жыл бұрын
Ahhh okay so is it okay to just switch it off. Like it wont break no ? When you say you switch it off, do you do this with the main switch on the plug socket or the reset button on the machine. And how do you know where to mark the jug so you mnow 200 ml is left behind. Sorry for all the questions this is the first time using this and I don’t want to break it or get it wrong lol
@Zyzigy Жыл бұрын
@@AG-he8uj My model is a little different than this but it is quite safe to stop the process before it switches itself off. All it is doing is just boiling water. To power mine off I just tap the same button on the distiller that turns it on. Located on the control/display panel. Mine is adjustable and shows you the operating temperature. To get the appropriate level, I just filled my distiller to the full mark, then emptied it into the collection jug leaving behind about 150ml to 200ml. Then I marked the level on the collection jug with a black permanent sharpie. Easy.
@AG-he8uj Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this I just marked my jug bottle. Only thing is the distiller I’ve got doesn’t have a switch button it has a reset button but not sure I can press this to turn it off and wether I can just turn it off by the mains but don’t want to break it so I’ll have to figure something out. Thank you so much for responding. Really appreciate it

Do you ever clean the condensing/fan unit?
@Tall_OrderАй бұрын
I recently bought a Vevor brand distiller for my mother for christmas. I've made 3 gallons so far, and I'm already seeing rust forming in the bottom of the pot. Maybe it's because I leave the top on after it's done? It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while, and I've only used it 3 times.

It’s most likely just iron in your tapwater left over from the distillation process
@christylynn451 Жыл бұрын
So helpful! Thank you! Also what is the difference you found starting it with cold water vs hot? I thought hot would save time & energy?
@thefonzkiss9 ай бұрын
Of course putting hot or boiling water in will be quicker as the element in the distiller doesn’t have to heat it.

I clean out my distiller every other day so that scale doesn’t build up though. I never use the cleaner it came with though, I just use plain citric acid with white vinegar and I never boil it because it doesn’t ever get that dirty. I just soak for a few minutes and that stuff becomes super soft. Sometimes I get lazy and just use vinegar and that works just fine too.
@unknown6892 жыл бұрын
The best and easiest way is to put the distiller on a timer. Just shy of half an hour before completion of distilling. You only then need to use vinegar to lift out the scale that adhered to the bottom and the sides. It takes way less then 20 to 30 minutes to clean. You can see the scale in powder form, in the water and especially dumping out the water that has not adhered to the chamber.
@MGillDesign2 жыл бұрын
But will you then not get a full 1 gallon of drinking water? How much reduction of drinking water does shutting off early cause?
@Orbacron2 жыл бұрын
@@MGillDesign only a few ounces less. I usually add a few more ounces to the fill line before starting so that the difference is negligible and so I don't end up with a dry bottom after the timer turns off in about 3hours. Your going to want to use a timer to protect your water distiller investment.. Because the thermal switch will fail before the heating element in only a few months if you don't get that timer to shut the distiller off instead of the built in thermal switch👌 also your going to want to keep dielectric grease on both of your power plugs so that they maintain a good electrical connection over time.. Water will corrode these connections, and that is why you don't want to get water in those plug in ports..

Hi I put water in and vinegar and let it run for 1/2 hour or so? Then it comes off?? Ours is covered all the way up. I soak it for 6-8 hours and scrub and hardly nothing comes off? So I’m doing it wrong? Thank you for the advice I’m going to take a picture of before and after. Thank you again 👍👍

That is the easy part. What about the fan and housing. I read something about pulling the fan down and pulling the condenser tubing down. And to clean with warm soapy water, but they didn't have any pictures on the web site. I'm afraid to try and "pull down" anything. Afraid I might break something. Thanks.

How much is the bottle of the acid powder cleaner and how many ounces or grams? I'm trying to find a cheaper way to clean my distiller. I pay 32 dollars for the cleaning powder of 40 ounces, from the distiller's manufacturer and pay 12 American dollars for the shipping. A total of $44.00. They say, that cleaning the distiller with 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water is an alternative option. However, storing bottles of vinegar can take up a lot of space. Thank you.
@keithjohnson5190 Жыл бұрын
I put about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of citric acid in the water that I plan on boiling and then I never let the distiller shut off by itself. I either shut it off before the jug is full or I use a timer and shut it off about a half hour early. If you use tap water use the hot water, it cuts the boil time down.

couldnt you just fill it with vinegar and let it soak overnight, or even a slightly diluted vinegar. I drained and cleaned out my hot water tank with this method and it had much worse scaling than this?

No , the reset button only will start distiller when top is off. When top is on and plugged in, if you hear fan then water will boil. If no sound, press reset button. 🙂
