Awesome video, helped me greatly with the best way to clean the pads. Not going to lie I would have gone straight for the hose before watching this

Thanks for the video. I've got a pressurised spin clear filter system. Would you recommend just givinig it a spin clean after winter or shall I apply your tips, remove the media and clean it that way.?
@ThePondAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
I would clean all the media and make sure everything is working, yes it might be a pain but I would recommend once a year. It’s amazing how much these filters hold even after a spin.

I'm planning to build a fish pond with waterfall in the spring of this year. At first my plan was to use an intake bay, but after looking at this video a skimmer might also be a good option. In which situations do you prefer a skimmer instead of an intake bay?
@ThePondAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
Fish ponds, a client wanting an easy system to clean. Intakes are great from wildlife however they are a little hard to clean regularly, you have to pick of the leaves and debris with a net or your hand. Sometimes an intake is the only option, wildlife & large ponds

It was! Much easier than cleaning the gravel in the pond

What about power washing the pads using pond water? I've got a small pump I want to attach to a small power washer
@ThePondAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
yes just not city water, still be careful with power washing as you can damage the mats, you can clean these pond filter pads to much, i only use power washers with thinker pads

How would you do a water change on an ecological pond such as this one? In another video you mentioned consistent water changes were important with koi and a trickle in and trickle out method but how would that apply to a pond like this? I’m doing a college paper on pond maintenance
@ThePondAdvisor2 жыл бұрын
We have an over flow so you could have an open system. Consistent water changes are important if you want to grow fish. More like a fish pool (farming fish) instead of and ecosystem pond (free range).

Apologies can you recommend a free standing pond skimmer, my pond has concrete sides and a pond liner due to the age of the pond. On looking on line there are so many options. The pond is 24,000 ltrs. I ha e a good filtration system but getting quite a bit of surface crud. Thanks
@ThePondAdvisor2 жыл бұрын
Create an intake bay, or skim cove. I would built one inside the concrete pool.

Hi Mark how do you keep the pond water level correct for skimming, as in how do you deal with evaporation?
@ThePondAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
The 1000 has an adjustable faceplate and can move up and down 4-5” the water level can drop 8” (due to the depth of the weir door)before having to top up. In the UK evaporation is around an inch per week in summer, from Oct to April we don’t have to top up. If you have a lot of evaporation, plants, streams, massive surface areas, then you can add an auto top up system with a valve
I'm thinking of adding a spillway bowl to the edge of my Aqauascpes pond here in Tampa Florida. How did you hide the pump to it? Also I'm thinking of adding an Ultra 800. It's only a spillway bowl. One bowl. I wad thinking of adding the Ultra 800 underwater on the edge of the pond just below the spillway bowls hidden in a rock cave. Is that how you do it?

We have the pump in the skimmer

Hopefully this video will help understand the skimmer a little better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5amkKdmmZt5ZtU

@@ThePondAdvisor I know the pump goes in the skimmer. I was talking about the spillway bowl. So you run a separate line to the spillway bowl from the skimmer box? Or a seperate smaller pump for the spillway bowl in additon to the pond pump in the skimmer.
@ianbarker2753 Жыл бұрын
If I have understand this correctly there is one pump that sits within the skimmer and it also pumps water to the waterfall? In this video which pump is being used? Thanks.
@ThePondAdvisor Жыл бұрын
One pump in skimmer sucking into skimmer and blows the water out into the biofalls
@ThePondAdvisor Жыл бұрын
Just one pump

I would always recommend switching the socket off and then unplug the unit. In some cases the socket switch is only single pole and if the sockets polarity is the wrong way around the electrical equipment may still be live. Is it likely? No. But why take the risk…..
@kristianpocs62763 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you use a vacuum cleaner to pull dirty water out of the skimer and biological falls
@ThePondAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
For the little time it’s done before the set up of the vacuum, if doing a service call onsite we are normally doing more maintenance than simply cleaning out the skimmer and waterfall filter. Plus most people don’t need to buy a pond vacuum so I shown the best way with out!
