That works with loose carbon. For baked-on carbon, the only thing that gets it off is Easy Off oven cleaner. Spray the foam on cool glass and leave it for an hour, then wipe it off with a wet sponge.

Still bad to use hot water if the glass isn't super hot? We just got one and my mother and law does it to hers. We're just now breaking it in and have some tint to clean off. So after a few burns we have opaque creosote build up. What do you recommend for that? Just tried this method and it didn't cut it even a little bit.

Try a razor blade . A little vinegar and water on paper towels . Use 1st towel to get the majority , then repeat with clean paper towel , repeat till clean . Build good hot fire , as this removes most of the real black creosote . So sorry to hear . I'm thinking about burning Fruit loops , but now I don't think I will......lol . The soot on our glass burns off. If it gets dirty we just crank up the fire and next thing the glass is clear again.
@GoshenPrepping3 жыл бұрын
Some of the soot becomes ash attached to the glass. You could never burn off all the debris, no matter how hot the stove gets. Your comment is like saying you can drive fast through the rain to wash your car. It may get a lot of the dirt off, but sometimes you need to actually wipe it with a cloth. Your comment looks good on paper, but in real life, it doesn't work.

Hahaaa not at all. More like a dusting. Mine is so thick and crusty a razor blade barely scapes it off. I’d be there for 2 hours using this method, I’ve tried it all. Razor blade is my easiest way - I guess that’s what happens when you’re actually using it to heat a house.

@@georgehays4908 I’m no wood stove expert lol. I just have an old Lopi which is incredible to have in my 1400 sf home. It’s built to heat 4k sf so needless to say I’m always warm. I have a heat pump but never use it. I designed and built this place and the heat pump was just for alternative use if it gets rented out or I sell it in the future.
