I had an awful situation recently. My young female cat had 4 kittens. Everything was great for 5 days she was such a good mama. Well on day 6 she seemed tired day 7 she stopped eating , day 8 her paws were cold and she wasn't walking .I had bought new litter and at first thought she was having an allergic reaction. Then I saw her swollen mammary and a round dark spot on the side of it. I Google it. Mastitis. I live on a low fixed income so i knew my Vet wouldn't see her, nor would any other here. Treatment with Keflex was mentioned, i has this and prescription silvadene. I open capsules and separated the med into about 40mg and dosed her 3xs a day, I packed her wound( it opened the 2nd day of Keflex) it was huge but I spread silvadine on it and covered it with a clean maxi pad, taped it, wrapped it in gauze. Every day I did all of this plus dosing her with 20ml cat cbd 3xs a day. By day 5 she started eating then using the litter box each day she grew stronger. She is fully healed at 14 days out.

When my cat was bitten by a eastern diamondback it was to late for anti venom. His little paw was swole up four times the other one. I gave him a penicillin shot. For pain I scraped off a tiny bit of Suboxone pill (buprenorphine) and rubbed it on his gums. Not even a half a milligram. He healed up in no time. Left a nasty scar though.

Blows my mind that the video has so much information and people just rush to the comments to ask about a specific case. I get that if you have an issue that you might want to avoid a trip to your local vet, but if you care about your animal and it is something of concern then you need to bring the animal to a professional. This video is about wound care and preventing the wound from getting infected, and it sounds like some people have an infection on their hands already and want to figure out how to fix that. You might have to foot the bill for wound cleaning and getting it back to a point where with time and proper care it will heal.

Yep, I just spent close to $1000 after a neighborhood kid came into my yard with a stray pitbull he could not control and that instantly went for my miniature dachshunds neck with its death grip. Not a question in my mind about spending that money but I understand those that may not have the luxury are hoping to find a solution here. But the solution is to take your animal to the vet if it's wounded and use these videos for reference or tips for the future. Good luck to all and happy new year.

Your mind is too small.😂. I care for strays in my colony. We simply don't have vets to handle the large number of street dogs. 100 of them in one square kilometer. So, a pro bono vet is really helpful. The municipal authorities don't have the resources to do a mobile visit here.

I have a question is cold water better for cleaning an infected wound that got pus. I can't take my cat to the vet need to clean it at home. Gave her antibiotic pills and am using an ointment that has betedine. I have a second cat who made her wounds infected because he was lacking her. I just saw it was pus filling up. I'm thinking of washing her wound with pure water or salt water. Anything helps.

They didn't even clean his wound and just put a bandage on it. He is now being given antibiotics and the wound is bandaged but it smells really bad. I change his bandage everyday and clean the wound as best as I can with povine iodine. But the bad smell still isn't going away. What can I do now?

It's really impossible for me to say without seeing the wound in person. If it is no longer infected you can ask if it can be stitched closed. If it is then getting a culture might be needed. If you are not happy with the care he is getting then a second opinion might also be a good idea

We always clean his wounds and give medicines, right now were giving him vitamin c and calcium for improvements. The vet dont want to have operation with his wounds unless it is healed but we have really hard time doing that since our dog is very energetic and strong even he has wounds. we just tie our dog so he can't roam around our house that makes his wounds worst. anyway his broken bones is in near his shoulder joints.

My dog is handicapped and created 3 real bad drag wounds on our deck one day after going nuts when she saw a neighbor walking their dog. She actually made them much worse by obsessively licking them for several days. Initially I tried diluted povidone iodine and triple antibiotic cream and then bandaging the wounds, but honestly after too much of this treatment, they actually began to worsen. No air to the wounds was definitely keeping them looking like chewed meat. It was very challenging to keep them uncovered though because they would stick to her bedding! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was keeping an e-collar on her. I saw this video and after a few days of feeling defeated by her lack of progress, I decided to use tap water twice a day (in a spray bottle) and then after tapping the wounds dry, I followed it with a light dab of coconut oil. My husband and I were really trying to avoid the cost of a vet bill if we could. Long story short, the light application of coconut oil definitely sped the healing. She's about 95% better, the tissue is almost closed up/gone! Yay. I think the diluted iodine is a must at the beginning when you're concerned about infection, but in my opinion, a gentler wash of soap/water or water needs to be the case after maybe 2 or 3 days, depending on the severity of the wound. I should also mention we were/are deliberate about a health supplement (twice a day) in her food as well as turmeric, coconut oil and some kefir. Heal from the inside out.

Hello. My dog is handicapped. She does not drag her back legs but they are pointing forward. She also can not bend them. Hello can I ask something, my dog's testicles grew large and we believed it was because our nwighbor kept on pinching it when we're not around. Then, we treated wt antibiotics given from the vet we know, and now it's back to its normal size however, it's open, it's not bleeding but it's open, and i think he's eating his testacles' skin. What will I do?? It's lockdown here so we can't really take him to a vet.

if you don't have a buster collar then you could try putting a t-shirt on backwards (back legs through the arm holes) to cover the area up. Also, you should still be able to talk to your vet who has seen it and may be able to offer some more specific advice. stay safe

I really need help. My dog is a 10 year old German Shepherd with bad back legs. He lives outside because he is also incontinent. He drags his back legs, and they almost always have wounds on them because of this. I have tried a million things to keep him from scraping his lega, but nothing works. I keep a close eye on his wounds and clean them as necessary, but it is just impossible to keep it clean enough, since he is always dragging and usually through his pee and poo. I feel absolutely horrible about his state, and now I feel even worse for him, because the wound on his left leg seems to have taken a turn for the worst. It looks like the skin is melting off in a couple of spots since yesterday. I panicked and cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide.. I didn't realize it could be harmful. I also wrapped it as best as I could with yarrow that I had and gave him oral turmeric and pepper. Today, it looks worse. I treated it again with just water, and then some high strength colloidal silver directly on his wound and internally. Then I also put unrefined coconut oil on it. I gave him more turmeric and pepper, coconut oil, and CBD oil for pain. Is there anything else I can do for him? We can't afford a vet bill right now, and he may be on his last half year anyway... I am just really sad and freaking out a bit..

you know why dogs have those cones on them sometimes? it’s so they don’t lick their stitches or whatever, so maybe if you don’t have a cone maybe but bandage that is not super sticky so that when you pull of the bandage it won’t pull on his hair. hopefully he’s alright now ☺️

Unless it continues to bleed it shouldn't need a bandage. Just avoid any surfaces that are really abbrasive for a day or two and keep it clean if it gets dirty. Should be fine

it depends on the strength of the solution you have been given. A typical strength for wound cleaning would be 0.05%

If it’s infected then you will need antibiotics from the vet. If it’s clean then protecting it with a sock once it dries out will help healing. Pads do take a long time to heal fully

He is on 2q days of antibitotics and 7 days of pain/inflamation meds. His paw is still draining at home, why didnt they comepletely drain the abcess? If he will let you massage the area to drain any pus then that will certainly help. If you've still got concerns the give your vet a call but it can take a few days for treatment to really kick in and clear the infection

I have found a cat in a park that looks like it has been hit by a car the wound it quite big its on one of her legs and the cat can't walk on the back legs but i don't think she is completely paralysed the thing is I want to take her to the vet but its quite costly and our financial situation isn't as good so I want to try to help the cat as much as possible alone I have found some antiseptic solution at home that can be used for wounds but im not sure if i can use it on a cat as it is a human product. you can try distracting with something like a peanut butter filled kong, but it's important you think of your own safety, and if a wound is that sore then the vet is probably the best option.

my cat is semi parelitic. He keeps urinating and now he has wounds on his scrotum & pee area. I wash him with mild soap and warm water and the wounds are better but he still has pain. Hey doc , my dog had surgery last week he had a tumor remove from his belly , it’s been a week but his stitches pop and now he has a big wound , he’s not bleeding much , I clean it and wrap it around , can i do anything else to make the healing process quicker

Iwould give your vet a call as depending on where it is and the size of the wound, having a few more stitches place may be the best idea

I’ve been to a vet& they’re going to remove it on 9/21 but in the meantime it’s only 9/8& the oozing a lot, it bleeds I clean it with Iodine I’m just trying daily & put a bandage on to prevent infection, is it good to wrap or not? Is my question. Any help would be appreciated. Please I can’t lose him or see him suffer. He’s a healthy dog. Blood work was good.

Hello doctor, can i use warm water to clean my cat wound? Because in my country, the tap water is cold during this time. Even a mineral water in bottle is about 25 celcius something. I clean it with the water and my cat is shaking because of the cold. So in my case, can use heated water to clean my cat's wound? Thank you in advance. 😊

yes, warm water is fine - so long as it's not too hot of course!

I know this comment is 2 yrs old now, but I would heat up cold water instead. As warm water from the tap (being heated from a traditional water heater) gathers mineral deposits and possibly some bacteria through the heating process. Cold water seems to be much more sanitary, coming directly from a filtration facility and not making a stop at your water heater.

Hi, my dog must have found a badger, he's got some superficial scratches but I'm concerned with a cut on the tip of his penis. It was bleeding a lot but has stopped now. I've dressed it with honey and will monitor it for infection. It happened about an hour ago so I've not had a chance to see if he can urinate yet. I assume a genital wound is more complicated than a normal one?

It really depends on how much damage there is and if it is involving the urethra. Not a bad idea to get it checked to avoid any potential complicaitons
