Depending on how long it’s been since descaled, or how much mineral deposits you have, will determine how long you leave the solution in kettle. My old kettle was bad to my laziness. So, I had to leave it over night. Doing it now with new kettle. I’ve left vinegar in for almost thirty minutes. Should be able to rinse it out now. Make sure after rinsing to boil up a couple of times fresh water in kettle. I can’t believe it, my lawyer said he never descales his kettle, Yuck! Great video, thanks.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I wonder how your lawyer filters his water if he never has to descale it? Ours needs it almost every other week lately! We have City water and filter through a Berkey.😮

Would you happen to know if the kettle on the base is too hot to set on a Formica countertop?
@ASlightlyBetterWife Жыл бұрын
In my experience it's fine on Formica. That's what we have for countertops in our kitchen. The bottom of the kettle inside is made of stainless steel, and it's insulated with other materials that do not transfer heat in the same way. This kettle of mine unfortunately took a dive off the counter after many years of use, so I've replaced it with one that is stainless steel in the inside and plastic on the outside. I preferred this glass one, but with children using it each day I needed something more durable and that required less urgency of it were to fall again.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I lost my instructions to my kettle. Are they dishwasher safe to clean the exterior?
@ASlightlyBetterWife2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. They are not dishwasher safe. I think this is due to the double wall insulation and metal pieces at the bottom that connect to the base for power. You could use a damp rag with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water to wipe down the outside.
@josegaribay97502 жыл бұрын
Will do, thank you very much for your response.
@LinetteMiles2 жыл бұрын
So you can not wash it normally??
@ASlightlyBetterWife2 жыл бұрын
If you are careful to not get water on the electrical components you could definitely wash it by hand. Depending on your water source, overtime it can get a scale built up that needs to be removed. It comes right off with vinegar and water.

I had to do this method twice, but it worked--not 100% like brand new-- there is still some residual scale left over, but I haven't cleaned my kettle in 6 years. This is the first time.
@ASlightlyBetterWife2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you gave this a try! Maybe try a little more vinegar for extra cleaning, or leave it soaking overnight? I hope it continues to get that build up off for you. I have to do mine about weekly because of a white powder our Berkey fluoride filters shed into my kettle.
@he_lives_in_apineapple_und97432 жыл бұрын
@@ASlightlyBetterWife I used two cups of vinegar. I was surprised how much came off after the first boil out. The second boil out made it 99% clear. Seeing as i barely used it for a few years and it came clean that fast I’m not complaining. It was calcium deposits. I’ll try soaking it next time and throwing in some lemon juice. I also use tap water, too. Might switch to distilled water and see if that helps.

I would have used a long skinny brush to scrub a bit the top area and around the rim before dumping it out.
@ASlightlyBetterWife Жыл бұрын
The top area actually gets really clean as well just from the steam while it boils. There's some condensation that is visible after only rinsing quickly, but it's not that scaly stuff, thankfully. A brush could be super helpful!

Hi, whenever I pour the vinegar and water mixture, it overflows and I freak out and turn it off before it spills on the element and damages it. I do this before it turns off on its own.Did you add a small amount of vinegar or did you turn off the kettle before it stopped boiling?
@ASlightlyBetterWife3 жыл бұрын
Liz, On my unit the element is covered by a solid piece of metal in the base of the kettle, so it isn't visible. As long as you aren't pouring any amount past the indicated MAX FILL line it shouldn't boil over or out. A splash of vinegar mixed with water is all it takes. If you don't feel comfortable with this method you could put some vinegar on a washcloth and wipe the kettle out by hand, and then rinse with water. Good luck!

I have not spent a lot of time in tunnels know what audio sounds like inside of them, but I can imagine. I'm sorry if the sound hinders the lesson here. We keep our home pretty minimal and have hard floors, so there aren't a lot of items to absorb sound in my environment. I will keep this in mind and tried to experiment with using a microphone.
