@OutdoorguruGearReviews3 жыл бұрын
Enjoy the outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Hi! Great video. How do you clean the inside leather lining of your hiking boots? Mine are pretty darkened by sweat and dust, and I wonder which way is the best to clean and make them look fresh again?
@OutdoorguruGearReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hi Claus, difficult to answer since some leathers react different. In general just wash them with luke warm water and let them dry without adding heat. Some manufacturers advice to use a special cleaning 'detergent' that also refreshens the 'smell'. What brand and type of boots? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Hi Gijs, thanks for the swift answer. My boots are the Hanwag Lhasa II Wide with a white leather lining.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hi Claus, Sorry for the late reply, had to sort some own 'problems'. Hanwag, just clean like I wrote. Most I learned came from a Hanwag agent and he is a true shoeguru 😉 extra-ordinaire. He is the one who learned me how to take care of boots also the leather lined ones. After drying you can treat the leather with a very light layer beeswax and give it some time to feed the leather otherwise you sox will turn out a bit waxy. Have fun cleaning them! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

The tool is a pointing tool for finishing mortar joints between bricks. You’ll ruin it using on the boots 😨

I know what it is and no way that this does any harm to the tool or the shoes.

Never use bee wax. It clogs up the pores of the shoe doesn't breathe and the wax will attract/form gunk. Even in dress shoes you only apply it to the tip. Instead use a impregnation spay.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews3 жыл бұрын
Sorry West, You are sort of wrong here. Most people use wax in very thick layers and then you are right. If used in the correct way it feeds the leather and does not clog the pores. Like sunscreen does not block the pores in our skin. Impregnations spray is a safe option for sure. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews It doesn't disappear unless you remove it with acetone each time before you apply a new coat. Like I said, even with dress shoes you apply it only on the toe area because it's gunks up, no matter how little you apply. That's why shoe manufacturers recommend only shoe cream that has oil instead of wax because that reconditions the leather. Wax was used back in the day for waterproofing when there wasn't impregnation spay. Manufacturers advise to use leather cream and then impregnation spray before the cream fully dries out or many manufacturers suggest only using the spray. Lokk it up. Also one more important thing is to not to apply the oil or cream too thick in general because it will soak/clog the membrane and not too close and not to much close to the sole because it will unglue the sole.

Hi West, Thanks again for the feedback! For the articles I write about shoes already for a long time for outdoor magazines and now for my own stuff I contact the experts from shoe brands like Meindl, Lowa, Hanwag etc and apparently they tell me a different story then they tell you. Before shooting the vid I contacted the Grand Master in shoe business over here - Gerard Evers - about this and he just confirmed the beeswax and I have no reason the doubt him. But I do agree on old days versus new days, new methods are good too but also be aware that most manufacturers have their own maintenance stuff or deals with manufacturers so there is a commercial reason too. That said... a lot of those brands have beeswax in the collection and advice it. For (partly) synthetic shoes... that is a different ballgame and also for breathable fabrics. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

I guess you must be German? It’s not the accent that makes me think this it’s the 7 different brushes and a 23 minute video on how to clean your walking boots. Dude we don’t have 2 hours to clean our boots. Lol. This seems OTT. I get mine, blast them with the shower head to get the mud off, brush them with one brush, rinse again and then add the nikwax. 5 min job.
