Putting the paper towel through the barrel is an excellent advice, Tom. It soaks the leftover inks nicely. 😊

Love my Vac 700R and Vac Mini. Great for travel as you can shut off the ink flow. No ink burping either. It's nice that TWSBI includes the silicon grease but the bottle's plastic is so stiff you can't squeeze it to actually use it. Ended up slicing the tip a bit bigger and just use a toothpick. I avoid using the q-tips as there is chance to pick up and transfer loose fibers.

3:01 I have the 700R Iris for about a week now and for the life of me, I can't screw the front section off. There's only so much force I'm willing to apply to get it open. I don't want to risk damaging my new pen. Any tips?

If you hold the twsbi grease bottle upside down it should gravity feed, but I think too much comes out at one time, learned that the hard way with my Eco. I prefer the grease that Goulet sells which is a huge amount of grease and easier to use for sure.

I take the grip off and soak the nib and feed for about a half-hour. Then I flush it out with a bulb syringe. I flush the body with a long blunt tip syringe. (In fact, I actually fill it directly with a syringe instead of using the vacuum function.) I haven't had to take it fully apart yet.
@GoldspotPens3 жыл бұрын
But inking the pen with the vacuum fill function is the funnest part! I love your cleaning technique, by the way.

@@GoldspotPens I'm not a fan. LOL! I avoided the vac fillers until I found that I could take the grips off TWSBI pens. I tried it a few times, but I prefer to fill it up with ink, and the syringe was faster for me than doing it over and over.

@@MarshaLove0723 I agree. I can never get a full fill with the vacuum filling thingy but I can fill it with the syringe quickly and without any mess. Though I do agree the vacuum filling is more fun, and if you take precautions the mess is.... easier to clean up ;-)

@5:08 I have no idea how your part is coming apart so easy....mine is pretty much stuck and I am twisting/pulling HARD and it isn't coming off.

Run some warm water over it to help loosen the threads.

Hi Tom, thank you so much for this video. Do you have any tips for removing a front section that's seemingly stuck to the barrel in a Vac700R Iris M nib? I've only filled this pen once and discovered during cleaning it for the first time a few days ago that I can't unscrew the front section like I'm supposed to. I have another Vac700R Iris F nib I haven't used yet and I can unscrew the front section just fine on that pen, so I don't think it's my technique. Push comes to shove, maybe I'll just stick to cleaning the pen using your first method rather than risk applying too much pressure to the resin and cracking the resin.

I would suggest running warm tap water over the area where the section meets the barrel. Make sure the warm water doesn't go on the nib area. The idea here is the same as getting a stuck jar open. The warmth will help loosen the threads of the barrel so you can unscrew the section safely. The water should be warm, but not so warm that your skin would hurt. Run it for about 15 seconds, dry off the pen and try to see if it will unscrew. If not, then try for another 15 seconds.

@@GoldspotPens Tom, it worked! I ran it under hot water for 15 seconds, like you said hot but not enough to be uncomfortable. Thank you!!

You can use syringe to remove the leftover ink?

What about the two gaskets in the head/nib section? Is there a gasket where the nib barrel meets the iris colored nib sleeve?
@GoldspotPens3 жыл бұрын
I would only replace those o-ring gaskets if they failed or deteriorated. If they look like they are in good shape, then leave them be.

I can't unscrew the nib. I've already put it hot water and tried rubber band and it didn't help. I've even riped skin on my two fingers without realising 😅. I don't know what to do anymore
