Wow Kaye - That's a lot of luffa and seeds for another season! Awesome harvest and great demo on how to process it. Not sure how strong they are but perhaps could be used to make a cat scratching post with some support. Hope you have some seeds for sale to your loyal viewers (c: and have a blessed week..

That's an interesting thought. I don't know if it would hold up long to those sharp claws. Even the hard ones.

I didn’t know what a Luffa was or what a Luffa made of, but sure knew it wasn’t a sponge! Learn something new today, thanks, Kaye!

This is fascinating! I hadn't thought about where luffas come from but if someone asked me, I wouldn't have said they're grown in Tennessee. 😊

Makes sense. It's not exactly tropical here. It will die off. It even died off in LA where it never froze. But we do get a lot of heat and it loves it.

and 13 more on the back porch and the plant has new vines with new fruit forming. I expect it to go full tilt till it gets cold.

Very interesting to watch. I was one of those that thought it was a sponge that came from the ocean. 🤪

As I watch footage of Kaye peeling the luffas, my mouth is hanging wide open. Her variety of luffa is SO different than mine! My luffas are twice as long as hers, but the outer skin resists removal, coming off in bits and pieces and damaging the sponge beneath. Hers cleans up in a few seconds. Mine is a long, frustrating ordeal. PLEASE give me some of those seeds, Kaye. Congratulations on a huge harvest.
@LatebloomershowАй бұрын
Will do, but did you soak?? Mine are like that unless I soak.
@darrellluck7230Ай бұрын
@@Latebloomershow Oh yeah, I soaked them. I think, with my luffas, soaking activates the super glue that holds the skin on.

Wished I could grow them here but the season just isn't long enough that I am aware of in zone 5a. Not sure if I missed the info but did you let them dry on the vine first before picking? Ty and am sure this will garner another record of viewers like your first one did.
@LatebloomershowАй бұрын
Yes, I did let them dry. I could have picked sooner, but, was my attention was elsewhere. I'm not sure what makes some hard and some soft. Oh I can only hope so, Haffy. Actually when that came out, I used that video for the competitions I was entering and also had a youtube partner (they took 45% of my earnings) and they shared that video on their Twitter and that really kicked it up. I've only one successful video this year, (over 10% of # of subs) so it's unlikely, but one can hope. I thought the moringa would do much better since so many places around the world grow it, like luffa. Luffa isn't like sweet potatoes when you harvest in the fall. I got most of these off the vine a month ago. Start in late January and keep them growing inside till the vines are two feet long and see.

Nice harvest, Kaye! Thisismy second year growing luffa in Texas. I have had a good harvest, but nothing compared to yours. I have about a dozen already harvested, cleaned and dried, with about 8 or more on the vine.

So you can actually use this as a sponge??? Please make a video demonstrating that. We've never grown this, never even heard of it until this year. 😂😂

Wow! Yes, that is what you do. Did you see the first video? I cut it with a serrated knife to the thickness you want. But, yes, I can make a video.

I thought that you would take the skin off first and then soak them,,,,,,,
@LatebloomershowАй бұрын
No it peels off in penny size pieces, tedious and takes awhile. If it's no entirely dry, it sticks to the sponge. Soaking is THE way to go, trust me!

@@Latebloomershow Try this trick to keep skeeters off of you. I use no scent, no dye dryer sheets. I usually use about 4 sheets on me. I rub the dryer sheets on my exposed skin, also on my clothing and then I tuck those dryer sheet into my shoes, into the pockets of my shorts, etc… I leave the sheets hanging out a bit, tuck one in the neck of your shirt, if you wear a watch, tuck a sheet under it.. you may not be asked to walk in a runway show but most often those dryer sheets keep the skeeters at bay! Much love ✌🏻
