@MikeSmith-vb8ul2 жыл бұрын
@@jasonvegas3593 For chlorine, use bleach (~6% NaOCl) or pool chlorine (~10-12% NaOCl). Alternatively, Ca(OCl)2 is also available but may contribute to limescale buildup (due to the calcium). Note that these forms of chlorine may also increase pH and alkalinity slightly, but not by much. To really increase pH and alkalinity, use washing soda. To reduce pH, use muriatic acid. Note that you can also use trichlorocyanuric acid to reduce pH and increase chlorine (as long as your cyanuric acid levels aren't too high, apparently). Dichlorocyanuric acid can also raise both cyanuric acid and chlorine levels but will have less of an effect on pH than trichlorocyanuric acid. If your cyanuric acid level is too high, you may to add much more chlorine for proper sanitation...

Very informative as far as understanding testing. But can someone point to a video that shows you the HOW TOs on getting to ideal levels? A lot of these videos say you want it at this level, you want it at that level, but how? So PH is not ideal... What do I buy, where do I add it? Just dump it in one location? Spread it around? Does the pool need to be on when adding whatever it is that I need to add, etc.

Standard is the 31%. 14% will work too, but you'll have to add twice as much.
@steveminard64414 жыл бұрын

He misspoke the first time. If you WATCH carefully at 6:07 he clearly added 2 drops. Later he repeatly correctly stated “2 drops of Number 5 solution”. Great video. One question. You say testing alkalinity is important and that it needs to be between 80-120 ppm. What is the remedy if it’s not?
@drdrew32 жыл бұрын
In most pools totally alkalinity is perpetually falling - you raise it with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). If it’s too high you lower it with muriatic acid.

first of all what are the definition of these terms??? alkalinity, Ph acid etc, I'm new to this trying to keep my pool healthy, this is too much of an explanation for very beginners; I just learned today from you, with all the posted lessons, that there is something that covers the cement that can be harmed if you don't balance the water in your pool
@drdrew32 жыл бұрын
You should definitely learn what the terms mean BEFORE watching the video on how to test for them - otherwise the whole concept is lost. The element that protects the surface of a cement pool is an adequate CALCIUM level (target 300-350ppm)
