I appreciate how much you love an care for your pipe..... wow, you do some work! I just do regular maintainence. Run a pipe cleaner through it after every use. Just like you, I have my personal opinion. This is mine. A pipe is supposed to be used... a personal companion that goes through everyday struggles, just like yourself. I personally use my meershaum every day, or every other day when I get home from work. ( I have a rotation of 7 to 12 briars for smoking through out eveyday, but smoke my meershaum once a day or every other day when i get home...sorry for over explaining) If it gets a ding or a scratch, it's a time to remeber. I guess I really should take better care of my meershaum, but its the pipe I've had the longest. I got it when I just thought it looked cool... knowing nothing about pipes. I now smoke it almost everyday, and look back, and enjoy the memories each ding, dent, and stain remind me of. There is my 2 cents enjoy piping everyone!!!

That is a serious operation. I noticed that your meerschaum is very white. Does this prevent discoloration from regular use?

😂 nope, discoloration comes from smoking and absorbing from inside the bowl mostly. I haven`t smoked it that much the last weeks or months.

Hi Jean, ive just purchased a new meerschaum but its has a dark wax on it rather than a white beeswax i think can you suggest how i can remove the yellow wax/stain off the new pipe thank you Mark.

Hi Mark, the best thing to do is smoke it and it will change its color. Otherwise only a professional meerschaum carver should remove the dark wax. It’s like the color of a briar: some choose red, some choose orange, some choose green or other colors. But the most important thing: the color of a briar or the wax of a meerschaum does not affect the smoking experience! 😉 if you don’t like dark colored meerschaums don’t buy them next time! 😉 happy smokes, Mark! 👍🏻

Do you suggest cleaning the inside of the pipe with the 90% isopropyl alcohol? I know not to use whiskey bourbon on anything but wood/briar pipes.

Only inside the stem. Meerschaum does not need cleaning inside the bowl. 😉

You clean your cobs with alcohol?! 😳 Wow, now I feel like the perfect cob abuser.. 😂😂 The only thing my cobs use to see is a pipe cleaner. My briar pipes get the alcohol treatment every 5 smokes. But it depends on the blends you smoke (how much "dirt" they leave behind in the bowl and stem.) When you clean your pipe after 4 smokes and the pipe cleaners are not really dirty (dark brown or even black) you can try cleaning them after 7 or 8 smokes maybe. 😉

I would wrap some 240 or 180 sandpaper (or even rougher one) around a pipe cleaner then and rub inside the stem until it's clean. The most important thing: no alcohol or other fluids inside the meer, because it will be absorbed! 😉

Do you use it to clean your briers too? What do you think about using it on M. M. corn cobs as a cleaner and protectant?

Thank`s my friend! I use Ballistol on every acrylic stem, but of course only on the outside. I haven`t tried it for Ebonit and the cobs I think have very simple, cheap plastics. But definitely worth a try. Can`t go wrong I guess. 😉
