Success! I can now type "R". Thank You. I have a 2012 macbook. I think the key design must be a little different than this one because the key seems to have microscopic hook on top of key with teeny tiny clips on bottom. It was easier to pop off from bottom, not top. I used my fingernail to pry if off carefully, popped off from bottom of key. There was a tiny bit of dirt around edges of key, but the issue for me was that there is a tiny clear plastic nipple button that is supposed to sit directly under the center of the key, and it had moved out of place so the key was no longer working. I moved it back to center and popped the key back on, again hooking from top and pressing down until the clips popped into place on the bottom of the key. Careful with that little clear plastic button - when brushing the key with an alcohol-dampened cotton-swab, I nearly lost the button. It's clear and tiny.

REALLY HUGE help. Thank you so much. So as an FYI, I usually use a vacuum on keys that work hard and 8 out of 10 times it sucks the crumbs or dust out rendering the key fully operable again. But vacuuming my delete key didn't do it this time around so per Binh Repaired's instructions I removed the delete key, prying from the top with a pin, first starting in the top left corner and then carefully working my way across the top of the key. THEN, I put the vacuum nozzle to it and sucked it all out and while I was at it, I also vacuumed my entire keyboard. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Apple acknowledges this flaw and it is covered under their FREE quality program. I got free repair from Apple Repair Cetre in London. They also fixed spotlight and backlight display issue and thats usually 550 GBP but it was replaced for free. My MBP is 2.5 years old without warranty.

Hi Binh, Whats the yellowish sticky stuff you cleaned with paper.. Is it tea or coffee spill by customer or something macbook pro's generate due to heat on motherboard..i have 2-3 keys making clicking sound..will cleaning the sticky stuff resolve the loud clicky sound issue..Thanks for this great helpful video

I don't remember, but it's usually something with sugar in it. Other substances don't stay sticky when dry. Usually soda, coffee/tea with sugar, sometimes alcoholic beverages, milk tea, juice, etc. Cleaning should fix it, but be gentle with popping out the keys and make sure you twist all the water out of the paper towel. You don't want it to drip inside the keyboard.

The first thing you should try is just blowing on the keys affected. So just put your face close to the key and just blow straight into the affected key. This could work. I did this and it fixed my space bar. There is no harm in doing this first unlike what the video is showing.

Depends on the power of your vacuum. If you use the hand bristle tool, it should be ok, just don't be too rough.

I have a question for you! I have two keys that are not snapping back in but they look exactly like the keys that snap back in -no broken pieces. I even tested a "k" key that works well and tried to snap it into the "f" key that is not snapping back in and the "k" key snapped into the f bracket perfectly. Do you have any advice as to why 1 key is not working or snapping back in? Thank you!

I didn't even have to remove my key. There was something stuck and I just removed it and blew air from my mouth by lifting it a little using a thin metal scale.

Hey, while trying to fix the keyboard I damaged the Up & Down keys, any idea where I can find the spare buttons?

Unfortunately this didn't work for me so perhaps you can help. My H key just started giving me issues. It's not sticky or anything, it just doesn't register when I hit it. I have to press its harder in order to get it to work, and it doesn't always. I tried taking off the key and using the toothbrush method, but no luck. Any idea what I should do?

Sounds like the keyboard circuitry is actually bad.

Most likely won't fix the double key problem unless it feels sticky. Watch the other video in the description as well for a better understanding of how to get them apart.

@@ItsBinhRepaired I had the double key problem with E and spacebar. For E the white plastic seemed a little weaker than other keys, not sure the cleaning fixed it because it doesn't happen often. The spacebar was a little difficult to remove and i was pulling the white plastic as well and made it somehow permanently unleveled, now the key doesn't have the same travel and feel. If i press on the bottom side and i don't press hard enough it doesn't work, but seems the the double key is fixed at least. The double space annoyed me for so many years... hope it stays like this.
