How to Clean and Reuse a Shop Vac Filter (Craftsman) Step by Step | Yeah Pete

This is the simple method I use to clean and reuse my Craftsman shop vac and filter:
Unplug and carefully remove lid.
Put a garbage bag over the top.
Dump out contents into a contractor bag.
Put a bolt through hole on bottom of filter.
Attach bolt to a drill.
Spin it to win it!
You may have to beat it with a soft stick a few times.

I use a shop vac for my home. What I do is, I have a spare filter. I take the dirty filter off, put a clean one on. Then I connect the hose to the air exhaust on the vacuum. I take old filter and vacuum outside, gently bang the filter against a tree to knock off most of the dust. Lastly, with the vacuum as far away as possible (at the end of the hose, which is pretty long) I use the blower attachment to get as much dust as reasonably possible off as well, then I store the used filter in a shopping bag and use the vacuum as normal.

What I did when I wanted to save 12-16 bucks was to dump the filter in a bag like you used and just shake it for a bit. I didn't think of the drill trick (awesome!), but I wished I would have. Try it with the bag and the drill next time.

You would laugh at what I used to do. I used to like you said first shake it off in a bag, but to get all the other junk out I would suck it out with another vacuum. Lol took forever. I'll try spinning it in a large trash bag and see if that works. After my current project it's due for a cleaning.
