To answer your question… Yes we use bleach here in Australia to clean our shells and it’s the same bleach you use to whiten clothes.

you're holding the nail clippers wrong, you hand should be at the back not at the blade end they are built with a spring I also wouldn't use the clippers as they could shatter the shell use a coarse emery board
