Just taking notes as I'm watching. 1. Snow foam then rinse 2. Shampoo with 0000 wire wool then rinse 3. Tar and glue remover (auto smart tardis) soaked cloth then buff off 4. Fallout remover (bilt hamber kerrosol) 5. Clay then rinse 6. Spray glass cleaner, work in with ragmaster premium glass cloth then buff off with Rag company premium waffle weave cloth. 7. Clean the inside of the glass. Use flat pivoting glass cleaning tool rather than your hand to get into the hard to reach areas using glass cleaner and buff off with waffle weave. 8. Apply Angel Wax H2go sealant with microfiber pad. Buff off after 10 mins. Repeat step 8. 9. Angel Wax Clarity screenwash 10. Clean rubber wiper blades

To me, this is the best video you've done. You see, even though I like to think that my work on paint speaks for itself, windows never turned out perfectly. Good enough, but not to my ultimate expectations. Like many I tried a number of cleaning products and methodologies, and some different towels, and it was still not perfect - I mean, looking factory-new. Not like factory-new, but exactly as factory-new. You know what I mean, I'm sure. After seeing this, I picked up some 16x16 waffle weaves - Autofiber in the US sells an excellent cloth for this - used the glass towels I had, and started on the 2-towel method with heavy scraping (with the microfiber). No exaggeration, after a couple of practice tries the windows are now up to my expectations. I'm thrilled! In terms of product, like many, I used Stoner Invisible Glass. Really didn't have a preference. On someone's advice I tried Armor-All glass cleaner. Best I've used to date. 3 months now. I actually have a preference. Been meaning to give the Angelwax glass products a shot, though.

Thanks Jon. This channel has become my "go to" resource for all things detailing for the past couple of years or so. This video was just what I needed for sorting out the glass on a 6 year old Fiesta which has never had a proper glass deep clean. Started on the windscreen. The area swept by the wipers responded well to Jon's routine but there was still something on the glass in the unswept areas that was visible on the wet screen even after the claying step! Driving me to distraction! As I want to seal the glass with Angelwax H2GO I needed to get that residue off. Stuck for ideas I eventually decided to try Meguiars Ultimate Compound which did the trick! Just thought I'd share that.

Another great vid, was thinking about how to properly clean glass before you made this vid. i claybard my glass and properly cleaned the interior glass with window cleaner to remove that oily film. it was crystal clear and visibility was increases as the sun used to reflect off the oily film. the angelwax h2go looks good and may consider getting it

So pleased you mentioned how important it is to keep wiper blades clean at the end of this video - it makes such a difference. I have a bottle of Poor Boys Trim Restorer on my 'go to' shelf. I use this product a lot, glass rubbers, door seals, wiper arms, black plastic like the scuttle under the windscreen, and on cleaned wiper blades. They seem to last longer, and keep their edge when treated with the Poor Boys - let it soak in, the remove the excess, otherwise it can streak, or ghost as you called it, when used.

you have to be so carefull.. glass can appear clean as a whistle but its actually still covered in a film of bonded grease on the surface. the litmus test is once cleaned a fresh microfiber towel should glide over the glass very smoothly. the glass could need decon first. It could also perhaps benefit from a specific glass cleaner polish thats solvent carried. It could also be worth using a solvent based degreaser over it after you have cleaned it. whatever works for you.. but once completly clean. the sealant needs to go down left to properly cure. once cured and buffed back its also best to just leave it overnight with the blades up in the air. the blades also need to be 100% clean. In cold winter months they cure slower, in summer they cure quicker. If anything is done wrong you can get ghosting from the blades. Even if you do it well, you "can" get blade judder on older cars for the first few days. H2go works, its very well priced and it lasts out well, but this genre of product all faces the same challenge and that challenge related to what happens with wiper blade ghosting and juddering. on windscreen should last 6 months. side glass maybe even a year with 2 coats. for me I dont use any glass sealant. Had good results whens Ive prep'd properly. funny enough it worked great for me on the m3 no problems. golf I rushed and got ghosting and judder. used another one of reg's 330 and I didnt think the results were great although reg loved the product.

An excellent video!!! A couple of words of warning guys 1/ there are many different qualities of steel wool!!! You must buy a good one which does not break down as you use it. Some tend to break down into what looks like dust but is in fact fragments of the steel wool. If this is left behind anywhere on the car in crevices on the rubber, in the drainways at the bottom of the windscreen they will very soon rust and can stain the paintwork. Buy one which is intended for top quality woodworking, which does not break down. 2/ Choose your degreaser/cleaner wisely and make sure it will not attack rubber. Some will take the outer surface of the rubber away microscopically and then over time you will find your cloths will be picking up black marks from the rubber which also contaminates the windscreen. Always check that they do not contain ammonia which is the worst thing on rubber.

Another great video! Good method that makes common sense ritualised approach saving time and simplified as ever. I've seen white vinegar, white spirit, meths, alcohol wipes used and a host of attempts to find the holy grail of glass cleaners. Rainex has worked for me in the past but doesn't seem to last long! Thanks for your recommended methods and products I will certainly give it a go 👍😊 Screwfix do a pack of 0000 wire wool £3.30 pretty cheap to stock. The tip on the wipers is one thing I never really think about or miss, great tip. Thanks again honest, informative and clear and concise.

Great video. Never thought about what cloth I use to clean my glass, looks like I have some shopping to do. My cleaning routine is to use 'granny mix' aka mix of dish soap, warm water, tiny bit of alcohol and if I have any glycerin, will add it too. This is what my grandmother and mother used to clean glass at home with, gotta say works perfect on car glass as well. Spray it, give it quick rub with a blade from safety razor and just wipe it off. For next step, I just spray my fave regular glass cleaner and claybar the glass, to finish it off I just use hard wax, something like soft99 water block. I always do this type of cleaning just before winter, having wax on the glass works better then any anti-rain compound and lasts much longer, as an added bonus ice will not stick to windshield, so I don't have to scrape my glass in the morning, quick wipe will do the job btw, I always had an itch to use something like nano ceramic coating or fluorine-based coats on the glass but they normally quite expensive to experiment with, if you feel like it, maybe you can try it;)

Very well detailed video. I've just had a go with the new Garage Therapy Glass Cleaner and it's fantastic. One tiny spritz can do one whole panel. Since my sports car only has 4 windows and 3 mirrors, my 500ml bottle may outlast the car.

I'm going to add two tidbits here. (1) Cerium Oxide on a Rayon pad, once you have decontaminated chemically and mechanically (with clay ) is what people with fish tanks use to jewel the glass. I've done quite a few windshields with this powder/distilled water mix, using a high speed drill. The 5 inch is great for the main glass, but using a 3 inch on the corners fits better. I have a video on my channel showing this method and I compare CarPro Ceriglass as well. (2) I've seen quite a few detailers using Meg's Express Synthetic Spray Wax on windshields. I've never been happy with it, as I get wiper chatter. 303 Aerospace Protectant used on the rubber wiper blades is well worth doing and a thorough cleaning. Meg's Express is good for all the other glass, even the interior. Great video Jon, it goes into my playlist !

On a trip up the motorway in the rain recently I noticed I hadn't been using my (automatic) windscreen wipers and then watched as the water just ran off my windscreen. I had put a 4:1 mix of Angelwax Clarity in my washer bottle a few weeks earlier and had forgotten all about it. The windscreen and wipers are cleaned in a normal irregular wash, no deep clean or protection in the year or so I have owned the car. It was the the first time I had used Clarity, after watching you recommend it, so I had hoped it worked and that the windscreen became slightly protected but I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

For interior glass I use two cloths, one low pile microfiber for the first wipe then a waffle weave drying towel for the final wipe. I only ever use warm tap water on the first cloth (soak it then wring out as much as possible), then do the first wipe with the damp cloth and straight away before the glass dries go over with the waffle weave. Repeat two or three times (depending on how dirty the glass is) and this removes all smears, lint etc. I find if the glass dries out slightly before you wipe over with the second cloth this causes the static that pulls the lint out the cloth causing the little tiny lint lines you mentioned. I've never seen the need for glass cleaners and I've used loads of them. If glass is extremely greasy then I use some APC on a fresh cloth, wipe over a couple times, then follow up with a couple passes with the damp cloth followed by the waffle weave. IPA mixed 2:1 with water can also help with really greasy windows but most of the time the warm water is more than enough as the picking up action of the microfiber does all the work. For the exterior glass I'll do while washing the car; pre-wash, rinse, hand wash, rinse, dry the car then either clay the glass (if it needs it) while the car is wet or just go over with a quick detailer afterwards to remove watermarks. I sometimes even (don't laugh, it works) use Rain-X 2-in-1 glass cleaner + repellant, as I find this product removes recent watermarks that accumulate outwith the wipers wiping zone. You may notice the area that isn't wiped with the wipers tends to suffer from watermarks and road grime that doesn't lift with a normal wash and wipe of the glass.

I've used BarKeeper's Friend to get Aquapel off mine as well Greame - works great in my experience. I believe Bon Ami is a similar product that also works. Jon - these are essentially very very slightly abrassive cleansers usually used for kitchen or bathroom cleaning - they don't scratch glass but are enough to remove stuff like Rain X or Aquapel from it.

Great video as usual. Have you tried Stoner Invisible Glass in aerosol format? I don't know if it is sold in the UK. It foams so it clings to the glass really well. I found that I only need one pass with a waffle weave microfiber towel. That's it, no streaks and beautiful clean glass. That is for the last clean after the decon process of course. Great video! And great channel, Sir. I really like the detail (pun intended), and the down to earth, aspects of this channel. Regarding the inside of the glass, I really like to use the Anti Fog from Rain-X. This helps avoiding the fogging of the interior glass, especially on the chiller days. Windscreen wipers is a thing that almost all people forget to clean. Personally, I ALWAYS clean my wiper with a tissue after cleaning my car, especially because I placed the wipers up to wash the car. This way, the dirt does not build up, and the wipers remain relatively clean. The thing that bugs me is: when turning on the water on the windshield, there are some seconds between the wiper blades starting to move, and the water coming out - which is understandable as the pump needs to push the water through. But, this little delay (a split of a second), makes the wipers completely dirty and my windshield gets micro-scratches, as the wipers passed through the dirt, collecting it; and only after those miliseconds the water starts to coming out. Oh well...

@@TopiasSalakka the Rain-X Anti-fog is good - but not perfect. To be honest, I use the Rain-X Anti-fog and a "silica bag" from UHU, which helps a lot. These two in junction offer really good results.

Almost exactly the same method as myself Jon minus the Tar/Glue. Never bothered as I imagine the Clay Mitt would remove these contaminants. Have to grab myself one of those sticks for the interior glass, look very handy! Brilliant video as always mate, 40 mins for cleaning glass is proper good going ;)

the chemical decon is the one thing I think on glass that you could skip like you say if your claying.. I think its only a benefit when you have a screen to deal with that is so contaminate you can feel and see the spots... but generally just a good clay will strip it all... great stuff buddy thanks for watching

I was able to get my hands on some Wolf's Nano Glass Sealant as it's pretty difficult to get here in US, although not impossible. Not sure if you've heard or used, but I was further sold on it during the winter, which was pretty harsh this year, lots of rain/snow, and its durability was impressive. Rarely needed wipers except for the occasional intermittent wipe, and this was in some downpours. I cannot vouch for this product enough although I'm a little unsure about maintenance. I guess I could refresh it before next winter because I doubt it will be needed much this summer. I use the same towels you do it looks like so that makes me feel better. Now if I could do something about all the pitting and abuse that the windshield takes from my daily drive. Great video

Came back to this vid to recommend a Volkswagen/Audi glass polish, a little 250ml silver bottle on ebay uk. Used with a machine+rayon pad or applicator pads. Doesn't dust up as quickly as autoglym behaves more like a paint compound. Very effective.

You raise such a good point at 31:52; something that applies across many areas of life actually. If the time it takes to apply extras that are nice to have (sealants etc.) ends up putting you off what should be prioritised in the first place (ESSENTIAL washes), because it now makes it so laborious...put the cart back infront of the horse. Get rid of what you 'should' do if it repels you, and make sure the most important thing is done: the actual wash.

yer I got a bit caught up in this as well.. spending a lot of time overdosing cars in product every time I washed them, and I would rush the actual important bit, the less glamourous cleaning jobs.. I think the channel was a little bit to blaim for that as well, always look for action shots of a product being used etc..

Love this guide, awesome. Back in the day aside from claying and using Tardis on the glass I used to use a razor. Never scratched the glass and definitely got the dirt out of it. Of course you have to use a lot of lube - I believe Larry from Ammo uses this method also.

Im going to kind of focus on traditional sealants rather than the sort of reactive siloxane ones for this review. Simply because theres actually not that many traditional sealants on the market but over the last few years the number of water based siloxane ones is vast, and their performance is consistent accross a lot of brands.

The cleaning tool from Halfords is a great bit of kit, even for doing the inside of the house windows. Nilco glass cleaner from B&Q is superb @ £3 litre, 5L is about £12-£14 from ebay. How does the H2GO compare to the RainX i used years ago.

I always find it better to use 2 of those ragmaster glass cloths rather than a different type. I always seem to find if I use another type to buff off afterwards I always get those whiskers unless it's a second ragmaster cloth. got an angelwax glass care kit off eBay with clarity, h2go and vision. came with a glass cloth that seemed to have no nap. still had whiskers, hence why I went to the second ragmaster glass cloth.

you know what paul. Ive only ever cleaned 2 bikes in my life. one was some scooter that I was tarting up for sale for a friend the other was some sports bike about 20 years ago. I really know nothing about cleaning motor bikes at all. could prolly of course apply most of the approach to how I clean cars and clean certain bits carefully. but no real insight or anything I could add beyond what anyone else already knows on it... You got to try the Glaco line of products when it comes to sealing the windshield. Personally i use Glaco Roll-on (lasts for approx 2-3 months) and i almost quit using the wipers ever since.

I have a suggestion for your sealant test: Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant 3.0 Does have a nice reflective finish, good beading at first but fades pretty quick in my case. probably because i had to apply when the weather was really humid, and the car was under a porch, not inside a garage.

Does Vision help with fogging on cold days? my car seems to fog up really badly when the glass is cold, so i'm just wondering if a change to a better quality glass cleaner would help or would i need a dedicated anti fog product?.

I bought two long reach handles for the interior windscreens. One I use to clean it, the other one I used to get the excess off by using it to hold the waffle weave against the glass. I've labelled one "ON" and one "OFF" and never mix the two. I've got a decade on you so I'm probably less flexible than you. I have a hard time finding Bilt Hamber here in the US.

Jon, For a really badly traffic filmed windscreen soak a very fine wire wool pad in brake cleaner and a spot of soap in the centre and rub over all the screen. Use a microfiber cloth to polish off then clean again with an ammonia based glass cleaner and buff to a shine. (old garage trick)

JON , for normal regular glass cleaning I use gtechniq G6 and high quality blue paper towel . The blue roll must be high quality (I use Tork) otherwise it lints.

In the Angelwax video for Vision Matt (from Angelwax) recommends using paper towel. I use it this way and I find it easy and very effective to use though, as already mentioned, you do need to use a good quality paper towel.

When I did valeting at a franchised dealer (my Saturday job many moons ago) blue paper towel was all we used on glass, though this was back before microfibres took over the world. Also prevents the "cloth" getting saturated cleaning multiple windows!

Thank again John for your excellent videos and advice. A wheel cleaning question/thought When the wheels are off the car for a proper clean and protective sealant what would you recommend so that the wheels can be washed outside and then worked on? I'm talking about some sort of stand to support them rather than having them balanced up against a wall. I think it would be great to be able to work on the wheels at at better level rather than crouching down. I and my girlfriend have a set of wheels for winter/summer and I'm left with the job of cleaning/changing winter wheel/tyre combos and if I could have a better way to set them up for cleaning then it would be great.

just use a glass cleaner and some waffles or diamond cloths from TRC work nice and wet with the diamond cloth and mop up with the waffle. do the border first. always get a fresh cloth for doing the inside front windscreen thats the greasiest.
