What a brilliant video! First time I've come across your KZbin channel and I am immediately impressed. At last, a proper Brit telling it as it really is. I'm fed up listening to Americans shouting at the top of their voices and talking at a million miles an hour! They have good videos but ruin them by never taking a breath 😂 I have only discovered the joys of detailing my own cars in this last year and this information is EXACTLY what I needed to encourage me to go further so thank you VERY MUCH John, great job, I will be watching every single one of your videos from today onwards, epic job mate!

I’m interested in getting into car detailing as a hobby and I’ve watched many videos, but your videos were the most interesting and detailed i saw so far. And on the top of all that it seems that you’re BMW fan. So thanks for all the effort you put in your videos!
@zaink70375 жыл бұрын
You should go for it 👍. The reason I went into car detailing was when I used to take my first car to a hand car wash once a month and seeing the paint badly swirled. Jon's videos helped me chose the best products and how to clean a car properly and safely. Then went into machine polishing which was scary but the results were really good. BMWs have hardly any plastics exposed which is great as there's nothing for waxes and polishes to stain into.

I really appreciate these beginner videos. Many youtube detailers seem to only make these so they can redirect me to buy their products or use their store, so it's great to have someone break the process down without trying to sell me something. I'm hoping you could give me a bit of advice as I'm planning to polish for the first time this spring. It seems like a 2 step process is going to get much better results. But as an amateur I'm a little bit concerned about the risk of removing too much clearcoat. My original plan was to use sonax perfect finish, and start with medium polishing pads, then step down to some more aggressive cutting pads as needed. Now you've got me thinking that I might as well use some cutting compound first. On heavily swirled 10+ year old paint, what is the right approach for a beginner? Part of my concern is that I'll inevitably be working on family and friend's cars too and I'd hate for a process that gave great results on my hard BMW clearcoat to annihilate a lexus or mazda.
@ForensicDetailing4 жыл бұрын
Im using affiliate links as well, it just helps me to make money as a full time you tuber but it also means I dont have to keep answering questions on where peoples can buy the products. Perfect Finish is a single stage product. It delivers good cut and a cracking finish but it can get stick you have to manage it. So I would take a 2 stage approach for hard old paintwork. But Koch H9 F6 M3. These are the only 3 abrasives you need. But Flex Purple Pads and Flex Orange pads. Cut with pruple and H9 or F6 (h9 hard F6 soft paint), finish with orange and M3. Trust me Ive used every pad on the market and every abrasive product. that combo is all you need.
@arbitraryalias98254 жыл бұрын
@@ForensicDetailing affiliate links are cool... I'm talking about guys like Autogeek and Obsessed Garage who run online stores. I can't really trust their product recommendations because the "best" product for them is the one with the highest profit margin. I'm sure most of them have good intentions but at the end of the day we've all got to pay the mortgage. But hey, thanks for the advice. I decided to pick up a set of the koch abrasives. Also ordered a paint thickness meter just to be safe. Couldn't order on amazon though, they wanted $5/bottle for shipping. I'd rather give you that money on patreon. Cheers.

Hi! I have just started to have fun polishing my car, I found it takes a lot more time to get the finish I want so I cleaned the car, used clay and polished / refined just the bonnet, than I have been polishing/refining one part at time, the fender, the door, the roof, I'm still half way to complete the car, i have to drywash my the part I inted to work on with some quick was spray, I use the Dino KRAFTPAKET machine with a short trow (seems to be popular here in germany), I changed the 6" plate for a 5" that feels better to use, for the pads I decided after watch your pads review, to go for the liquid elements centriforce and the rupes ones, and I found the rupes to be stiffer, I like more the centriforce ones, for compound I have the meguiars ultimate compund and polisher, that I used im my scale models, but I' using on my car the Koch Chemie H8 for polishing and P2 for refining, this P2 is said to have some carnuba wax on it so It may seal the surface in one go, for smaller places I have the meguiar's DA adaptor for hand drill with 3" plate on it and it's set of pads plus one rupes set, so far I'm having fun, just a bit affraid to carry out too much and eat into the clear coat, but I feel the clear coat on my car is too hard. Thanks a lot for your videos, they are very inspiring!

Thanks, I forgot to mention the main reason why I have to take it slow and do one piece per time, or day, is because I'm doing it in the building's parking lot and as I don't have acess to power outlet I have to relly on connecting one AC/DC power inverter on my battery and keep the engine running in order to power my toos, my inverter is limited to 800 w of steady delliver so I can't have a machine more powerfull than that, and using one inverter more powerfull would pottentialy drain my battery faster, so I have to do some compromises here and there...

I’ve clay bared the car, polished the scratches and holograms then waxed ( angelwax enigma) what could you recommend to maintain and keep the car popping and give a great gloss shine? Love your channel spend hours watching and learning.

question on saving money with products: if I want to remove swirls with a DA polishing machine and then cover with a ceramic coating then can I use something like a bottle of AG paint renovator from the cupboard with two different pads (white then black) OR (2) would I have to invest in a compound then a separate polish OR (3) can I trust in AG UHD polishing compound with two different pads supplied (approx £40) for a nearly perfect finish?
@ForensicDetailing3 жыл бұрын
you can use AG with 2 pads. but you only typically do this when the agressive pad is not giving you a clean finish (aka no machine marring). so you put on a soft pad and go again. but the moment you start doing 2 sets with a single stage product you have to ask if a cut and finish (2 abrasives)would yield better results with same efficency. UHD single stage will give you a good finish on OEM finishes from what I have seen. So yes use this product up for sure. spend the time getting to know how it works. for example if you get dust with it, understand you might want to shorten the set or increase the amount of matieral your working... its all balancing act.. we are quick to blaim products me included but must take time to understand them.

Brilliant video Jon. 29:03 Do you soak your pad and wring out leaving it moist?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
yo kenny I tend to just drop them in there and pile them up in the water tub untill the end of the day. you can take them out and leave them wet on the side if you want, ive heard other guys say they do that.
@kennyg47446 жыл бұрын
What I was meaning was, do you dampen your pads before you use them?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
ah sorry kenny no I dont mate.

This was an awesome video. Ive have just started my own business in Staffordshire - only basic washing valeting and detailing (if you can really call it that at the moment) and am looking to get more serious on the detailing and learn what I can. I wish I could phone you and pick your brain haha!

@Forensic Detailing Channel, Hey John, I've recently bought a D6PP V2 (1000w), I'm now looking at buying the compounds and pads. Now the only thing I'm still not 100% on is, I have the 5" & 6" backing plate but what size pads should I be purchasing , I'm I right in thinking the pads should be bigger by half an inch, so 5.5 & 6.5 ? Being the 15mm throw I'll definitely be taking your advice by using the Quantom range. Great content John and very informative , Thanks .
@ForensicDetailing4 жыл бұрын
ok so 5inch/125ml plates by either pads marked as 5inch pads (because they are describing the fitment size) or pads with the 140ml size like with flex. a few extra milimeters of velco will not hurt. just dont buy too small. so typically mate buy hex logic pads or the Flex purples and oranges I recomend and you will be 100% fine.

Hi Jon, brill video as usual. I had my car polished by a local company about 3 months ago. Having some small scratches appearing again and the odd swirl mark. What’s the best all in one polish to use if I get the in2detailing DA8 polisher. Would be my first time using a machine polisher, so ease of use is a must. Thanks
@ForensicDetailing3 жыл бұрын
F6 is a good mid range. then you can get H9 and M3 and you have the full abrasive tool set. But perfect finish is prolly a better pure single stage product.

Hi, Thanks for your very informative demo's. I'm getting more into detailing now and have a Meguiars MT320 DA polisher but still need to compound and polish the hard to get to or narrow bits by hand. What would be the most ideal/useful piece of equipment to get next if had to make a choice between a paint thickness gauge or a nano polisher for the hard to get to bits? I intend to detail several cars for family and friends. Thanks very much.
