How to Clean CPAP? In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the process of cleaning your CPAP machine, mask, and tube. You'll need mild dish soap, distilled water, a clean towel, and a soft-bristled brush. Unplug your machine and disassemble the mask and tubing.
Soak them in warm, soapy water for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with the cloth. Rinse thoroughly with water and air dry on a clean towel. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the machine, but do not submerge it in water or use any liquid cleaner. Finally (optional), turn on the machine without the mask and tubing attached to clear out any dust or debris. With regular cleaning, you can help ensure the longevity of your CPAP equipment and prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria.

You are THE BEST presenter for this procedure I have seen. I have been very lax at cleaning my machine, but this has inspired me to follow this procedure and (at 73 years of age) it may indeed lengthen my life-span!

I clean my CPAP equipment in a very similar way. However out of an abundance of caution, I always do one final rinse with distilled water. This helps rinse away any of the impurities in your tap water.

Thanks for the tip. New to cpap cleaning for the first time right now. I was kinda worried how he was using tap water to rinse it. I will use distilled water. Also instead of putting tap water in my tub I boiled and let water cool

I use Dawn dish soap to clean all the parts. I was told that white vinegar was a good disinfectant. Does anyone see an issue with solely using soap instead of vinegar, or maybe just using vinegar once a month and dish soap weekly? Has anyone found that a tube brush is even necessary if you conduct cleanings regularly? Thanks for any information to a new CPAP user!

@@tb7-rf1fb I use dish unscented dishwashing liquid to wash all my CPAP Parts including the hose on a weekly basis. I just rinse everything well and do a final rinse with distilled water. Dish soap is fine as long as you let it soak for a few minutes and rub things down before rinsing. Just have to make sure you rinse well. And if you you sent it so, you really need to rinse a lot. I do occasionally use vinegar, just as a precaution. But not that often. My weekly cleaning does an incredibly good job. As far as the hose brush, I've never used one. I just feel the hose with soapy water then I connect the two ends of a hose together and let it sit for a while. I will slosh the soapy water around in the hose a few times, before rinsing it very well.

Pro tip: to dry out your air tubes briefly turn on your CPAP (it will turn mostly off when it realizes you’re not using it) with the humidifier on its lowest setting and with no water. Because it thinks the humidifier is on it will do a light airflow to dry out the tube. I will also do this with the CPAP machine placed up high in the room and the tubing sloping down to the floor so excess water gets easily blown out.

Great video for newbies, like us here. LOL We'll be selecting our machine in a week or two. I THINK we'll go with the AirSense 11, but I hope that at the store, we get to hear it operating. Some people say that it's louder than the AirSense 10, but I don't know. I did see a tear down of both models and the motor in the 11 is about 1/2 the size of that in the 10, so to push the air, the fan portion has to run double speed. So that does create more noise. Last night, my other half had the CPAP sleep thing done. The machine that they used was a ResMed lab quality machine that was so silent running that I wasn't even sure it was running. But it was. However, I do have a question about cleaning the hose, because we're going to get the "heated" hose. So I'm wondering, due to the electrical connectors and heating wire inside, would washing that be any different than a standard hose?? Of by chance, has ResMed taken that into consideration and designed the heated hose to be well sealed so that it can be washed like seen here? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thansk

I really needed this video. I got my CPAP in a class-like setting where they gave us a machine and then asked what style of mask we wanted and that was it. We'll see you in a couple of months. I too have the AirSense 11. You should have mentioned that taking the ENTIRE unit into the bathroom is not necessary. LOL! But very informative and I do think a dedicated pail or bucket is an excellent idea. It allows you to leave some of your parts to soak for quite a while which helps a lot in cleaning.

Stick a white wash rag up inside your bathtub faucet, pull it out and see how much black mold you pull out! I don’t care what house a person lives in, even the help won’t reach in that bathtub faucet to clean it! I would never recommend using the bathtub faucet to wash out your CPAP hoses. Only use the most frequently operated faucet in the residence. For myself, it’s the kitchen faucet.
