I’ve been for a week into the cpap therapy, and it has been very frustrating. My mask is an f20, but I’m a side sleeper, so any time that I go to deeper stages of my sleep, the mask looses it seal and you find yourself with a bunch of air going to your eyes and with a bad noise. After that it’s really difficult to sleep again, so you feel frustrated and tired. I feel very tired and thinking about changing my mask for an f30i, which is designed for side sleepers. Thanks for the videos and for sharing the information, it helps with the process of getting used to the therapy.

Holy hell. Thanks you so much for this! I struggled for over a year with ongoing mask leaks. Spent a fortune trying different masks, and then rage quit therapy. I only just returned last week due to ongoing daytime fatigue and lack of energy. Still struggled with leakage. Then I found this video while researching alternative masks (I'm using an AirTouch F30). Turns out, my pressure of 14 was way too high for my needs. Last night, I dropped it to 11 and leakage dropped dramatically, while my AHI was a solid 0.7. I plan to calibrate for the best balance over the next few nights, but first I came where to thank you for your pressure titration tip. I never thought of changing the setting from the initial APAP calibration point.

No matter how good you doctor is, the main challenge is what you do yourself. The doctors job is to find the excact diagnose, its not his job to accept a disease and comply to that. Apnea patients are very different. Thats our own job to manage the treatment in our daily life. Make your own experiments, and sooner or later they will lead to succes. Good we have the net, where you can find both good and worthless information. Its up to you to find out what is right in your situation.

@@Yoshi-1972 for what it’s worth, I think finding the right mask for you is key. I’ve been quite lucky. Diagnosed 1 month ago… but am scoring 100% on the ‘MyAir” application most nights. I use an over the counter sleep aid and wear ear plugs. It really helps get you to sleep. I wash my face and my mask before sleep, and that helps with the seal. For air leaks drying my eyes, I drape a cloth over my eyes when I lay down to sleep. It doesn't completely eliminate it but it drops the irritation down enough to sleep.I live in AZ so the lack of humidity here makes the dry eyes and mouth way worse. #1: get pressure levels right. Learn how to change pressure levels #2: figure out how to check your sleep data. Ideally under 5. Drop it to 8. Get 95th percentile. Set pressure limits for auto max and auto min. Goal is to reduce max limits. #3: get mask wipes to remove oil from mask or wipe mask with soapy water daily. Mask cushion needs replaced regularly #4: replace mask with rez med mirage Quattro. F10 Quattro. Roll fit Terra. IsSan or isSan two. P10 mask with N 30 strap. P30 with nasal cushion.

Just did modifications yesterday. Didn't do full dismissal, used a 7/8 diamond impregnated drill hole bit. Then sealed hole using 7/8 snap in hole plugs and then placed duct tape over them. Had to cut plugs seal edges to get fitted properly. The foam came out somewhat easy. Only difficulty was the factory dab of glue on a internal hold down points on each side. Used flashlight to shine into void to see if completely empty. Had to use hemostats to both remove foam and to clean off those glue points. Then reassembled and let run afew minutes. But went one step more, I placed the unit on C-check to readjust the air pressure flow. But the unit seam to be just a bit louder but no different the my old gray Resmed model. Ps tried using mask without that piece of baffling in the clip on area. So to replace used a filter replacement cut into small strips and then pressed them into the slot using a sewing needle.

I recently restarted using my mask. I'd stopped for a while as my pressure was far too high I'd had it changed to 14 from 12 and it was to much.. However, when it came time for the 6 monthly NHS service / adjustment of the machine it was lockdown and I was expected to sit in a hospital waiting room full of people who had breathing problems at a time when a virus was abundant which caused people to go to hospital with breathing problems.. So call me paranoid but my machine also hadn't been used etc. I have found Epimax hand / skin cream works extremely well using 2x pea sized amounts on the rubber seal it's hypoallergenic, water based, used to cleanse skin without needing to be dried off and seems to last for 3 / 4 nights when applied to the mask seal. I'm still trying to rebook my hospital appointment with the machine but I still have a few months before it's 6 months of use has elapsed for its service I've also managed to lose 5-6 stones and obviously my eyelids often flap due to the eye sockets CPAP pressure. Very uncomfortable when eyelids pass gas.. I've now set CPAP to 10 and thanks to your video I know how to properly monitor my results. This comment started out as the Epimax tip I'd figured out. Now you know 50% of my medical history. LOL.. Cheers & All the best hope this may help someone out as the therapy is incredible when it's comfortable and setup correctly.

300lbs+, beard & moustache, Philips Dream Station, set to 13.5. I use the Amara View "full face" (in medium cushion) which just fits from the BOTTOM of your nose to your chin, very small, very comfy if normal masks bug you. Doesn't go over the nose, goes under it, it's hard to believe it'll seal but it does. I switched to my old CPAP machine because of the Phillips recall and I use it at 14.6! Leaks aren't an issue. Change the damn cushion ($40USD) every couple of months and it's awesome. After about 3 months you can INSTANTLY feel the difference with a new cushion. When I make 'em last 6 months plus it's night and day better when I replace it. Wash the cushion is dish washing soap (Dawn brand in the US) and it screws it up, it turns white and isn't as supple. Not a problem with the Res Med full face my cousin uses. The Amara View mask has a quick release hose feature for trips to the bathroom or kicking the cat out.

Still feel the mask lifts away in the corners and I tend to drool, it's a mask that sits under the nose and full mouth. I have had anxiety and claustrophobia and seem to huge gulp down the air every hour then panic and rip the mask off. Have got the humidifier fairly sorted but still want to try a nasal only mask. Hi Michael, basically it will stay at the start pressure until you fall asleep. It can determine changes in your breathing associated with sleep onset and if it can't determine it after a set period of time it will increase similar to a normal ramp. Cheers

I typically have an AHI around 1 to NOW 2 with the new N20 mask, last night. Also, my mask fit is down to 78% whereby it's usually closer to or at 100%. So, I will try reducing my pressure from 11 (decided based on experiment in the past) to 10 (or less). How I sleep with the therapy?? Sleep? What’s that? Since I started this therapy I don’t sleep. Wake up about 5 times a night with such dry mouth my tongue is stuck to roof of my mouth. I slept better when I stopped breathing.
@marys77449 ай бұрын
I gave up for a while because the noise matches my breathing. I am assuming it is the mask but not sure. Why does this keep happening? I had the machine checked and got all new supplies yesterday and the same thing happens. I am beyond frustrated and can't get good sleep.

Hi there, yep watch part 3 of my series on the airsense kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3rJeaiabb-beqc . Some clinicians / doctors will lock their patients out from seeing the full data info in the patient view. You will need to switch that feature ON in the clinical settings (this is where you can also change your pressure levels etc). Best wishes Nick

My pressure setting is below 10 and AHI average 3. I have not been able to find a comfort balance in over 2 years. I will try your suggestions. Thank you.

Will mask leaks show up as AHI’s since the pressure is going to go up when the mask is leaking?
@andrewrobertson3398 Жыл бұрын
A question I keep asking on forums but no one seems to answer
@donnanelson9181 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewrobertson3398 I’ve done some research and the answer is yes, leaks will show up as AHI’s. Seems to me there are several variables that count as AHI’s. I’m not so sure these machines are all that accurate. I do think they’re a helpful tool in helping with sleep apnea, I’m just not so sure the numbers they track tell an accurate account of what’s going on. My AHI’s are all over the chart. I’ll have 2 one night and 15 the next night. I’m a back sleeper, which I read is the worst way to sleep if you have sleep apnea, but I can’t sleep on my side. I have yet to figure out why my numbers change so drastically from night to night. My doctor is going to switch me to a bi-pap machine. It’s supposed to work so much better than cpap. It’s a lot more expensive machine and I think for insurances purposes they have to try cpap first, but if it doesn’t work, which it doesn’t for me, then they move you to a bi-pap machine.

Every night for me results in my nose getting cold ( despite heater on) and dryness inside the nose almost to and including, inner nostril pain, acute enough to wake me up. So, just before I lay down with the CPAP on, I like to put some petroleum jelly on my finger and ever so lightly apply it to the inside of my nose. (If I have cold, I like to switch to Vicks Vapor rub instead.) The nose piece and the petro jelly makes for a nice seal, you simply wash the equipment off the next day.

Hi Dr Nick. My a h i is at 2 to 3 and my pressure was 17.5 and it has come down to 16 after what you have said I think I am room to improve because like you said quite uncomfortable especially after for 5 hours I wake up and I just don't feel like sleeping anymore because it is uncomfortable I do persist and continue resting but again you hit it on the head when you said how it can feel uncomfortable and I want to treatment to Feelgood. Obviously my weight is a factor what do you think I should do I have come down from over 135 kg to. 107 kilograms. Going to sleep with a full stomach does not help your apnea-hypopnea index if you have a beard get rid of it a shaving face is the best. Great video really appreciate it

Hi Darren, have you watched my pressure adjustment vid? - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn2XlpqtedepmMk . This will help you. I have a feeling that you could probably bring your pressure levels down further if you keep an eye on your ahi average over a week. Congrats on the weight loss but i'm assuming 107 is still overweight so you if you can get your BMI level (body mass index - google it) down to a healthy range then it will certainly help with your apnea. Also sleeping on your side or on a slight incline using a wedge pillow will also help. You might not be able to totally get rid of the machine with weight loss but it will certainly reduce the amount of pressure required to give you a healthy night sleep. Take care mate. Nick

Hi Donna, i did have a chuckle when i read 'full mask crap'. Pretty accurate way to describe it really lol. Most people wouldn't need to change the cushion that frequently. Every 3-6 months should be adequate. What's the model of the mask you are using? Cheers

@@CPAPReviews Actually, the recommendation by Medicare, Medicaid, & Blue Cross Blue Shield (all in the U. S.) as well as ResMed, is to change the cushion every month. I agree with you, though-they probably don’t need to be changed that frequently AS LONG AS they’re inspected every week & have no cracks, discoloration, etc., etc.

Hello. What would you recommend if I had started to have morning migraine since using a nasal mask? I had a full face mask for a week but it was leaking too much and hurting my jar. However, since I had the nasal one, the fitting was perfect, but I started to have migraine in the morning that last hours. Do you think it’s related to the pressure? Thanks
@CPAPReviews3 жыл бұрын
Hi Medinah, it's a tricky one. It could be but it's hard to know. I would consider perhaps just dropping your pressure levels down a little to see if that helps. Full face masks have a larger mask cavity compared to the nasal masks so the added pressure in the smaller mask cavity could be potentially causing some issues but i honestly don't know. If it was me i would just drop the pressure a little bit and see if it helps out. You can always increase it over time. Let me know how you go. Nick

@@CPAPReviews hello! Thank you for responding! I actually have another question. It is a bit difficult for me to describe. I have my machine for a few weeks now, since I have switched to the nasal one, I am waking up quite often during the night because of repetitive incident. What happen is that, depending on my sleeping position, I am awake by this choking sensation, where it feels I already inhale all the air coming from the cpap to the point where the plastic tube almost want to go through my nose as well 😅. This being said, I am lost as if it because of the pressure trying to go up while I’m having my apnea activities, or something related to my personal breathing. My machine is setup at A-flex 2.0; I have decided to lower it to 1.0 to see if it changed anything. Please help me. I’m losing a ton of sleep. I went from sleeping 8hours when I first got the machine to 6hours with 4 interruptions that last maybe 20/30minutes. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I've been a CPAP auto user for many years and I'm learning more here that is helpful. I wonder if you've found out how not to have to use Rem-ZZZ's with the Wisp Mask. Rem-ZZZ's is a little cloth triangle that covers the nose silicone to keep sensitive skin from becoming sore/inflammed. This does at times affect the seal, plus, even the x-small Remzzz's is too large. Will check back for comments.
@ban27006513 жыл бұрын
Wisp is Respironics, best I've found; especially if your claustrophobic. The mask is soft in the fabric, but I do use the RemZZZ's to protect skin as mentioned above.

Last night was my first night with any kind of CPAP machine. I didn't think leaking was too bad of an issue. Did I sleep?? No not really but at some points I couldn't even feel the mask on my face. I did end of getting very dry nasal passages. My max pressure is set at 15.... since I'm new to this I have no idea if that is high... or average. I also do not know if the set pressure is available for me to adjust. I ended up getting a full face because sometimes I have a stuffy nose. My husband was happy that he didn't hear me snoring and he was happy that any noise was non-existent (relieved husband). What do you think of the product NasoGEL to moisturize in the nose? I watched your video on humidity already. I think I will ask the VA about the tube wrap to keep the heat in the tube. I really appreciate your very informative videos. For a newbie like me.... they are a god send! THANK YOU!

Hi Sorsha, welcome to the channel and thanks for sharing your first impressions / experience with the therapy. It will certainly take a bit of getting use to! Here's some things you need to find out. 1. Are you using an Automatic machine ( apap) or a fixed pressure machine (cpap). 15 is classified as a high pressure (20 is as high as they go and 4 is normally the lowest level). I think you have made a slight mistake in starting with a full face mask on the basis of your occasional stuffy nose. I highly recommend starting with a nasal pillow or nasal hybrid mask for the first few weeks and then move to a full face mask if you're really struggling with the nasal breathing. Take it one step at a time mate and keep watching /learning from my vids and i'm sure you and your husband will be better off in the long run. Best wishes. Nicko
