Just did this, on a older model and I’m here to say it works. Ran thru, half vinegar, half water, until mix was gone. Then ran thru regular water till it was gone. Also saw a tip in the comments. Added a tiny tiny pinky nails worth of baking soda, in the final rinse thru, and the descale light is off and my coffee doesn’t taste like vinegar. Great video!!! Thank you so much

Much appreciated on the video. Pro tip if you add a small amount of baking soda like a very minuscule amount talking tip of your pinky amount to the water when you’re on your on the last step when running just water through the machine it will kill any vinegar taste. Have a good one!

Good tips. I wasn’t aware of letting sit for a time and then rising. I agree half water should to added to vinegar and I replace filter as well. I only use bottled water because I believe coffee tastes better. After I run 2-3 cycles, I run a cycle with a coffee pod and I dump it. I think it further helps to eliminate any vinegary taste. Happy descaling.

Keurig descaler is citric acid, which is the same acid you get from lemons, minus the lemon flavor. Descale more often, and use citric acid, because acetic acid in vinegar harms seals and some metals.

Vinegar works better if you use 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar. It will allow more capacity for total dissolved solvents in the water, and will carry away better. And still won't need very long soaking. The heat combined with the acid will descale very quick.

Yes. Vinegar is very efficient in grabbing minerals and dirt and you don’t need to use but one cup to get the job done. I clean houses with diluted vinegar all the time, like scummy layered showers and my diluted vinegar works every time. Mine is diluted two parts water to one part vinegar though. Don’t waste vinegar, diluted does the same thing.

@AdriAsTheSiren
@AdriAsTheSiren 3 жыл бұрын
Sue, I never use tap water because we have very hard water where I live and over time the minerals in it will kill your Keurig; I personally see no point in descaling your Keurig with the very thing that caused you to have to do such a thing in the first place! Either way, to prolong the life of your Keurig, I'd recommend using only distilled water in your Keurig. Besides, even if you don't want to use distilled water all the time, you could always just buy a gallon of it for ~$1 and use that for cleaning!

Use vinegar diluted to 50% strength. If you use pure vinegar it may make the machine seize up and stop working. My machine would not fill the cup with the vinegar and was acting crazy, making weird sounds- I thought I had broke the machine. But I re-set the machine and recovered, here's how: If the machine is hot turn the machine off, and unplug it for one hour. If the machine is not hot, remove the water reservoir from the machine and allow the brewer to sit unplugged for a 15 minutes without a water reservoir. Then plug the machine in and power the machine on, then replace the reservoir with just water in it. It should now work normally again. It may take more than one cycle of reset to return to full normal. Dislodged mineral scale can clog the "needle" spout that punctures the foil top on the K-cup. To clean the needle, remove the fat rubber gasket at the top of the needle, then carefully push a paper clip wire up into the needle openings, there may be white scale pieces there to clear away.

Keurig Elite Descale light did not go off for me after following the steps shown on instructions and You tube videos. There is a metal nozzle which punches the upper side of the cup to inject the water in to the cup. I took a paper clip to clean the inside of this metal nozzle in circular and up and down movements about one minute. Light went off. then I was able to run 12 oz mode to cycle the vinegar solution to clean. repeated the 12oz process just as how I made the coffee by reopening the top section without having a k-cup in the container.

I did this once and forgot to remove my filter first and had the same issue as this. Maybe this is your issue! If so, you should replace the filter. If not, I would try running cycles with no pod in until your machine tells you to "add water" and then only add a cups worth of water, run it, then repeat a few times and see if that helps! Best of luck!

I rinsed it several times & brewed hot water out of it multiple times after doing this vinegar cleaning method. It's as if maybe there's vinegar residue in it but i already brewed hot water from the whole water reservoir a multiple times to rinse it out & it still tastes awful. I washed the water reservoir with soapy water too, & rinsed it thoroughly. Still didn't help. I haven't been able to use my Keurig since. Also, I used about 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 purified water ratio .

I never use tap water for any drinking purpose specially tea or coffee. I noticed that the descaling the Keurig is not that necessary as often as before if bottled water is used. Not to mention that the tea or coffee tastes a lot better. I buy Peet’s coffee & tea which are quite expensive so the cost of water is the least of my concern. Additionally since I use bottled water, one cup of distilled vinegar is enough for descaling every three months.

It first starts to take forever… Until it completely stops dispensing any coffee at all… That’s when it’s telling you to de-scale and mine had big calcium deposits IN the tubing inside the top part of the machine which I had to blow out with an air compressor. Some can remove the top of their Keurig‘s and reach the tubes. I tried and couldn’t get the lid off but that really helps to squeeze those pliable rubbery tubes to break up often hard deposits in them. A couple of the videos show specifically how to remove your lead to get access to your tubes. One helpful and short video should show up in your search buy a channel called ranch something… I searched “Keurig K 70 stops working” and he popped up three or four down the list

I have an R.O. (Reverse Osmosis) machine under my Kitchen sink ($200), a soft water machine in the garage ($500) and a pre-filter ($50) to protect the aforementioned from the rust that our old municipal/city piping creates. I have to change the pre-filter cartridges ($4 ea.) every 2-3 months...(from white to dark brown). I'm a plumbing contractor so all this is cheap for me. The Soft water system makes all your plumbing valves, shower heads, sink sprayers, air-raters and the like last almost forever. The R.O. system produces 99.5% pure water...even removes the fluoride!...but eliminates 100% of the hardness (calcium) and bad taste from tap water....So you only taste the coffee flavors! (noticeable difference).... Not to mention "never have to descale (clean) the Keurig. My girls won't go a day without soft, pure water. The ice makers in my home are only "charcoal filtered" soft water so the fluoride remains inside.

Rinse is not an option on my K 70 platinum machine. Just brew over and over which is the same thing on mine and on many. I don’t think most of us have different buttons or settings to differentiate “brew” and “rinse”

I watched a KZbin video in which they said not to use vinegar because it will damage the machine. Any truth to this?

Some can break a anvil with a rubber hammer. Don't let it sit for more than a hour with hot 5% vinegar. Flush it with new vinegar and check the results 30 minutes later. You can filter the vinegar and keep using it.

Did not know the filter was able to be removed I will try that. I have seen and tried suggestions from every video but still getting a message "Brewer Interrupted". No removable filter and "not" unscrewing the black assembly in the reservoir. Washed it out completely and ran 2 gallons of water through it thoroughly. I think the problem is the pods themselves that cause the "Brewer Interrupted" message. Should I let the vinegar set for about an hour or overnight?

I notice you don't mention anything about the cleaning of the 3 needles.

I did everything that you suggested. The keurig gives only 1/4 cup of water on large setting. Can I do anything>

Hi, I done that and never had any scale. My problem is the less amount of water. I also own the same Keurig as your's. I want to know if you seen water coming back in the tank as it brought water to mug. Can you see the stream of water going back in to the tank as going to mug? Thanks!

I had the same issue and that’s when you have deposits clogging up the interior tubing at the very top of the machine which you can’t access without taking out two screws. I did a search for “Keurig K 70 stops working“ and three or four down a channel whose name starts with ranch, shows you how to remove the top and squeeze on those tubes where the deposit is really bad. It’s a great video and super helpful he’s just one of two I could find that showed how to get into the machine. That will fix your problem I’m almost positive as when you have water going back into the tank from that clear white double spouted little knob thing that’s an indication there is a clogged tube in the machine with heavy deposits

TL;DR: 1. Remove filter. 2. Fill empty reservoir with vinegar. 3. Run all the way through. 4. Leave unit on and let sit for 1 hr. 5. Run 3 reservoirs' worth of water through. 6. Replace filter.

How much is the filter and how often do you change the filter? If I use filtered water, do I even need the filters?
