I love ice; I live on ice; I DEPEND on ice. Seriously, it helps me regulate my body temperature year-round. But, sadly, the fridge in my studio apartment rental not only does not have an icemaker but also no room to store a small amount of frozen foods AND ice. I've been researching countertop versions, but the prices, while understandable, are off-putting. So how happy was I to find someone in my apartment building had set out a portable countertop icemaker for disposal! I haven't run it yet, but decided first to check for any useful videos to handle cleaning, maintenance, & repair, since the icemaker I found did not come with an instruction manual. Which brought me to this video. Clear, concise, easy to understand, and the tip to use filtered water was particularly useful. Should be obvious, but who really thinks that deeply about a convenience appliance? Thankfully, YOU did. I'm very glad to have found this, and I've saved the site to my Favorites file. Thank you so much!

@@josantilyn9180 You misunderstand. I haven't chewed ice in 40 or 50 years. No, I live on the COLD. I regulate my body temp with it. Ice just gets the temp closer to slushie levels than plain refrigeration.

Hey thanks, great video ! If I can give a extra tip for tough black mold, I just cleaned the ice make at my workplace, it was actually really gross, full of mold and orange deposit. I did a few batch with vinegar but it would not remove the mold. What I did is : put some vinegar solution in a spray bottle and using a jet spray. The jet was strong enough to remove 90% of all mold. Using my fingers, I could reach of what was left of it and now it's really clean !

Thanks for this. We’ve owned our countertop ice maker for years w/o doing any cleaning whatsoever. I’m actually surprised it still works. That said, the main reason I wanted to comment was, the ratio of vinegar/water you recommend (50/50) is a lot stronger than a ratio I found elsewhere (10 parts water, 1 part vinegar). As much calcium floating around our reservoir, we’re going to need the strong solution & yes, we’ve been using well water exclusively. Not that anyone asked but, we’ve had the water tested, it’s safe to drink. It’s also a fairly deep (180’) well

Highly recommend a filter kit install, with any type of water! Change about once a year. A "carbon" type filter is best for good purity, and taste. We use a " Whole house" filter coming in from the supply, and the carbon filter at the ice maker as well. Less cleaning, and exponential longevity!! Happy cold ones everyone!!

When this machine has a door that OPENS to contaminants IT WILL require cleaning! IDC what filter you use to give you a source of "clean" water. The machine will still accumulate DIRT/DUST/DEBRIS from the air when the DOOR IS OPENED and EXPOSED TO AIRBORNE PARTICLES.

Ok perfect . I always wondered if these need to be descaled . But Does that one I have a self cleaning option? I just now found out that mine does. Prior I was using a soft baby bottle brush and vinegar/baking soda mix to scrub then I opened the top and the buildup was all the way behind the ice making part and above it . Anyway I got it about 90% clean with just scrubbing but the self cleaning just does the water cycle faster it sprays water and rotates back there . Then runs the solution all the way thru the machine a few times much easier 😅
