any acid even vinegar will etch grout every time you use it to clean grout. The alkaline based cement is eaten up every time it is exposed to acid. Use an oxidizer once then seal it with a coating based sealer so the mildew will only grow on the surface and can then be cleaned easier. Mildew is a primitive plant that has spores that are always present in the air and will live on the food provided by the lipids and fats in the soaps and shampoos we use in the shower.

Works great if spray vinegar on grout then mix baking soda water and Dawn dish soap to make a paste, and use grout brush to scrub grout while vinegar still wet. When finished one sponge mop and lots of clean water to clean up.

Power scrubbing works a lot better and any neutral floor cleaner will do the job! If you dont want to pay someone to do it you can make one of those drill brushes (its on KZbin) and do it yourself, its faster and better than a toothbrush. Also after working so hard on your floor I recommend to seal it. If you do this on marble you might need to polish it after cleaning the grout!

Vinegar will etch natural stone if you leave it on there too long. It will also eventually break down your grout lines too if left on too long there too.

Big thing is once you clean the grout and it is dry apply a clear coat grout sealer so the next time it is way easier.

Because vinegar is very acidic and will damage natural stones marble/travertine. This is one reason that travertine is not recommended in the kitchen as one orange juice spill can damage it.

I've been doing tile and grout restoration 4 25 plus years vinegar is acidic even though it does remove the dirt from your grout it actually does damage to the grout and makes it even more porous causing it could get dirty again

Rosa Ramirez for tile and grout cleaning a good neutral cleaner pH neutral cleaner should work fine there are plenty on the market I personally use a cleaner you can pick up on Amazon it's cold OdoBan neutral floor cleaner but it's great for any hard surface

...a nickel’s worth of free advise...keep your floors clean and stop being a lazy ass! Tile grout does not need to be sealed from day one, if your stay on top of it and regularly clean it. Manga cakes are the lazy ones that let their floor get this bad. You’ll never see an Italian household that has a dirty tile floor...lol. Right? Right!!

Try using the awesome yellow stuff at the Dollar Tree, I used it on bathroom floor gout & a small scrub brush, spray it on give it a few minutes then scrub with brush & give it a wash with plain water.

try mixing baking soda with vinegar into a paste, pour on the grout and let it sit for an hour. use a bigger brush like dish brush (I tried toothbrush and it took ages and not strong enough), and brush the grout. It's tiring to squat and brush but the result was amazing. I did about 15 - 20 tiles each time as it's too tiring to do more at once. Good luck!

If you cant finish it in one day, do it by sections. I've seen a different video that a person made using baking soda and white vinegar, maybe is quicker, I dont remember, you could try that. Or get another person to help you.

Instead of all that scrubbing why not just pour neat bleach in the grout lines leave for 1 hour then mop the floor with the remaining bleach, will get them pristine. However your tactic is good for tiles on the walls.

OK - I told my husband I had used vinegar on the tile in the shower and floor, and he flipped out. Acid (which vinegar is) eats away at the grout. He really was upset.

Tell him to calm down because vinegar isn't strong enough to eat away grout. Even "cleaning vinegar" is 6% acidic, as opposed to regular vinegar which is around 4-5% acidic. So tell him to relax. Had you went and applied a very highly acidic cleaner like muriatic acid or some toilet bowl cleaners...then yes...he would be right to freak out. LOL. Vinegar, however, is ok.

Vinegar should not be used full strength on your grout unless you want to remove the sealant! Vinegar is very acidic and should never be used near travertine as that it will etch it (burn it) or any other natural stone. Baking soda, mild soap and warm water are best to clean grout.
