What an easy solution. I am new to 3d printing and was struggling with adhesive to bed - so I tried to use glue stick as recommended on internet, -> it helped, but after print I was not able to remove the glue with IPA and I started to freak out that I destroyed the bed .... it went super easy with window cleaner. Thank you !

I had horrible problems getting PETG to stick to much of anything. Ultimately I discovered that if you set the nozzle temperature way up for just the first layer, I use 265 degrees, it sticks very nicely.
@HobbyHoarder6 жыл бұрын
Keldor314 It might depend on the brand as well? I'm using 235/70 for PETG and it sticks too well on my PEI sheet, even with the glue. Also, the fan is off on the 1st layer and at about 40-50% for the rest. I'm getting almost perfect results, just a tiny bit of stringing.
@Keldor3146 жыл бұрын
Hobby Hoarder I think it's because I have a thick printbed (it's a PrintInZ flexible buildplate) so the surface doesn't reach the full temperature. So 80 or 70 at the bottom of the hotplate is more like 50 at the surface. Turning the bed temperature higher results in an excessively long time to heat up, like more than 15 minutes. I use eSun filament, BTW. Anyway, if it's sticking too well, try lowering the bed temperature. Adhesion seems to drop quickly as the bed gets cooler since the filament cools and hardens immediately on contact before it has time to flatten out against the bed and truly stick.
@HobbyHoarder6 жыл бұрын
I'm concerned that I'll get warping if I lower the bed temp any further. I had small issues during the winter when the ambient temperature was lower, so I was printing with +5'C back then. I've since moved the printers to the basement (I prefer sleeping over printing) and I'm seeing small warping again. I'm seriously considering making an enclosure just so that I can keep the temps. consistent throughout the year.

Real quick. Do you do this with your bed heated ? Or with it off? Maybe a stupid question but just wanna make sure.
@HobbyHoarder3 жыл бұрын
I never heated ut before, but I guess heating it to 30'C might help soften the glue. I wouldn't go over that as the water might evaporate too quickly then.

When you're waiting for the glue to absorb most of the windex, is the heated bed on or is it off and cool? Thank you!
@HobbyHoarder5 жыл бұрын
It's a bit easier if the bed is still warm, makes the glue softer. But don't worry if you forget and clean it while it's cold, should still work. What I do is gather a bunch of models that I want to print in PETG and then print one after another. That way, I only have to clean the bed once when they're all done. If you happen to have Mk2.5 or Mk3, then you could buy a second sheet and use it for PETG only and then you never have to clean the glue.

works on textured pei ?
@HobbyHoarder2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it, but if you're printing PETG on a textured sheet, you don't actually have to use glue. Textured sheet is used to reduce adhesion, which is what glue did on a smooth sheet.

Yikes! The thought of scraping anything over my Prusa spring steel sheet makes me have nightmares! What I do is: turn off the printer and unplug (of course), make sure the hotbed has cooled down, then pour a little water onto the print bed. For one thing, it will show if you're level (!). Then just gently rub your fingers over the water and the glue. Fingertips are amazing. You can sense where the glue is thickest and work gently in those places until you feel your activities having an effect. Then, voila! The glue dissolves and you can wipe it off, or do as I do and leave a small amount on the bed to keep it very slightly tacky. This way you avoid the potential for scraping the finish on the steel sheet.... which could be an expensive mistake......
@HobbyHoarder4 жыл бұрын
This video was made back when you couldn't remove the sheet yet. It's much easier now where you can simply take the sheet and clean it under running water.
