I normally wait a while to install updates, finally did and immediately get crash to desktop for microsoft slight sim 2020, which only started after the update. Video helped a lot trying to install older drivers. Thanks!

Who doesn't love a clean install. It's great! I've always used that method Mike. I believe there is the same option for people using Radeon cards. Sometimes I wonder if DDU is only meant to be used when jumping from team red to team green

a tutorial on how to read crash minidumps would be great. i've had a few heap corruption crashes lately, as well as random system restarts, and i can't figure out what the issue is. i know there is a way to read crash report and minidump files, but can't remember off top of my head. As for these fresh-installs, i do them more or less all the time.

Oldie but goodie software is called blue screen viewer, I use it for work it can read mini dump files in Windows. Easy to use once you open it, your .dmp files are automatically loaded in, and it gives you the name of the error, the cause (for example a certain driver) it is a free download give it a go :)

Another brilliant and super clear video - thank you! At one point you said that if you have an intel cpu you will crash when unzipping the driver. I wondered if you were alluding to the degradation problem? Or is it just common for intel CPU’s? My 13900k can only install the driver 1 on every six or so tries. Do you think my cpu has degraded, this is after all the bios updates and clean windows install.

yes that was referencing the recent Intel 13th and 14th gen troubles. it is possible your chip is starting to show signs of failure, on mine i manually undervolt my cpu a little to give it an easier time and lower voltages, that might be worth looking into

depends what GPU you are coming from. But generally uninstalling the previous GPU software is enough prep

i get a problem with the games fallout new vegas & fallout 4, not tried three but i am sure its the same, i download the nvidea driver, do a restart, because that's the proper way, i try to load the game but it crashes, no matter what i do they just will not load past the load screen, windowed mode or any other way..... they just will not load, i found a way round it by not restarting or powering off the pc at all, in order to play the above, i never have figured why this happens, i do mod my games & thought that this was the cause, but in order for most mods to work you have to start up the game in order to create the game file for the mods to take affect, i thought maybe its because of a difference between clarkdale & lynnfield chips, but i have not fully investigated due to finding a way round via the none powering down of the pc & able to live with this, but it would be nice to have a reason why this happens.

I’ve had to do this 2x now as of this comments. And no clue why either. I have a 3060Ti, it’s about 3-4 years old now, I update my drivers every 2 weeks or so and clean my pc fairly often. Could it be my card itself or a mechanical problem and not my drivers? Great tutorial to as well
