I would LOVE to own that piece of amazing old marble.

I hope you stay on KZbin, David! You have the best channel for antiques and there aren’t enough antiques-based channels on here. I like the creative type of videos too with painting and sculpting etc. I’m trying to learn it all so it’s really helpful. 👍

Thanks so much for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. I really enjoy making the vids, but as we know it’s a hard slog to make any money out of KZbin…I really need 100,000 subs and then it might start paying!

That was very satisfying!🔥 I love everything about this setup. You should totally consider filming more in the garden... perhaps more antique cleaning tutorials?

Thank you! Will do!

Dear David, good job! What do you think that artifacts original purpose was?

It’s a mortar as in a mortar and pestle…used in a kitchen for a couple of hundred years and then chucked in the garden!

It saved me $$$ and the purchase of unnecessary equipment. Bring on the baking soda! Used for so many things! Thanks from Seattle, Washington, USA.

Great video! Thanks for making it. How abrasive is the baking soda? Will adding vinegar to it make it more abrasive? Can this method be used on marble busts?
@DavidHarperAntiques6 ай бұрын
It’s not very abrasive and yes works well on marble busts…not sure about the vinegar…never tried that

Adding vinegar to the bicarbonate would make it more fun !
@DavidHarperAntiques7 ай бұрын
It would!

Ye old sodium bicarbonate! It's one of the most useful cleaning chemicals you can buy. Nontoxic and dirt cheap. Another useful tool in the kit is full strength hydrogen peroxide, the sort you buy in a beauty supply store. Its great for removing brown stains from old pottery and porcelain.
@DavidHarperAntiques7 ай бұрын
That’s a good idea for a vid!

@@DavidHarperAntiques especially with how brown the peroxide can turn. Tea dyed pottery anyone?

Being a disciple of the wonderful Nancy Birtwhistle I am pretty sure she would have made a paste of the bicarb with some eco friendly washing up liquid which would make it adhere nicely. Otherwise your method is much as she would do. Great result.
