How To Clean & Polish Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips in Under 10 Minutes

Quick and easy way to clean and polish an exhaust tip in under 10 minutes. Metal polish would obviously work better but this buffing compound worked fine in this case. Another way to clean the tip is to use fine steel wool, but I didn't need to in this case. I love seeing a transformation and even something as small as an exhaust tip can make all the difference.

David U it was just a cleaner actually made for plastic and leather but I would recommend any all purpose cleaner it really doesn't matter.

Scott Ash I'm not really sure, I think it was purchased on ebay. It's just a stainless steel double wall 4" outlet.

They are the best looking tips in my opinion. Got some similar ones on my new edge, 3.5 inch slp's, match the wide deep dish wheels perfectly.

So I try cleaning mine off every once in a while, but I burn oil (1 liter for 5-600 miles fucking Celica's lmao) but I can't get the inside clean, it remains black with a thick layer, do you know any product that could break that up?

Try some metal polish and work it in with some super fine steel wool. It might get better but some of the black may never come off.

I have a Celica too, same problem. Tried autosol but the inside of the exhaust is still black. Either the build up is so thick that it won’t come off or my exhaust is actually secretly black 😂

I sprayed all purpose cleaner first, brushed with soapy water and then polished with polishing compound.

this is not polishing this is compounding. you need to polish after you compound something

Christian Pringle that only applies to working with a painted surface. This compound isn't even aggressive enough to have to follow up with polish on paint, let alone on stainless steel. You can't just polish out scratches on metal like you can with paint, this is more for just removing dirt and oxidation.

Yh I think even on paint that UC doesn’t really need to be followed up with a polish. I’m going to UCing whole car soon and will assess if it needs a follow up polish. But from most posts I’ve seen about it everybody has been happy with just UC and no followup

Take it from me the easiest way to clean exhaust chrome tips, is t-cut applied to mutton cloth, bit of elbow grease, and buffed to a shine, for good as new chrome tips , you'll be amazed. 👍😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

JI Singson it is called Meguiars ultimate compound, but you can use pretty much any polish or compound. Metal polish would probably work the best, but this stuff does a good job at removing oxidation, dirt, and light surface rust.

Probably nothing you can do about it, if steel gets hot enough it will change color. You're exhaust is probably getting a lot hotter than any vehicle I've owned, I've never had tips change color.

That wasn't the right type of cleaner for something like this, I would recommend any all purpose cleaner or degreaser and then use metal polish rather than this stuff which is made for car paint.

Nick Cottrell that was actually some cleaner made for plastic and leather. Try some all purpose cleaner, then try the finest steel wool with some metal polish.

I use a product called "L.A.'s Totally Awesome" which i pick up from my local Dollar Store. Been using it for years. It is the best Cleaner I have ever used PERIOD. Safe on all surfaces, Only $1.00

There are different variations of stainless, this is probably made from a cheaper version that doesn't hold up as well to rust

sheltonlp I would guess since I posted this video in January, it was probably around zero degrees outside. Not ideal conditions to wash a vehicle, plus it made for a better before and after on the video!

Mpokerdonk cleaning an exhaust tip is strictly for appearance. If you want it to look shiny and clean, clean it as often as it takes!

Ty Brink I was thinking of something that’s commonly found in the household. I have use mothers gold Mag wheel polish And flitz Metal polish. Both work extremely well.

Eddie Wiercioch I've seen other people try things commonly found around the house just to get exhaust tips clean like fine steel wool and other things, but I'm not sure if something like that could be used to polish. I may have to try something like that.
