I’ve been polishing metal for years now and your video is very informative and bang on for us DIYers. I understand polished aluminium tarnishes and needs protection but polished steel can be cleaned after the buffing process with WD40. That stuff is a great cleaner and brings out a shine like you wouldn’t believe. I’ve also found polished steel never rusts as there are no nooks and crannies for moisture to settle in. I’ve polished all my steel tools in the workshop over the years and never had a rust problem like I did every year after cold damp winters. Thanks for your video.🇦🇺👍

Hey, nice video! FYI: A white pad is extra-fine, approximately equivalent to 600-grit sandpaper; gray compares to 220-grit; maroon, 150-grit; and green, 100-grit. The difference among them relates to the coarseness of grit that's impregnated in the plastic strands, not the thickness of those strands.

Just got my set of pads. A godsend, incredible. It will take a little practice on when and how much to use the flap vs aggressive scratch pad but just the easiest aluminum polishing I've ever tried. I so wish inked these pads years ago when I made a 2x5 ft wrinkled copper waterfall fountain.

after polishing aluminum, you can protect it with 'Nufinish' the once a year car polish, it gives polished aluminum a liquid metal appearance which prevents oxidation so the finish will last a long time, I haven't tried it on other metals but I have used it on aluminum and it really does work!

Excellent presentation! I'm 67 and I have tried it all out there but you made it look so much easier with your method. I have ordered a bunch of your products, I'm in the middle of a 76 Yamaha RD400 high performance build. Recently I started another motorbike restoration, it's going to be a full nut and bolt job so I bit the bullet and got myself a decent 1.5 HP polisher, it cost a fair few quid but what a difference to the clapped out old polisher ive been using for the last 20+ years. I am really impressed with the various abrasive discs & flap wheels in this video, never seen those before & I already know I want them now I have this new machine ! I just clicked the link and saved the website ready to do a shopping list later, the only downside is the shipping, import duty & handling fees at my end so looks like I'm going to have to dig a bit deeper. Great video you did here btw very well explained.

Cameron, Well done buddy, I've been polishing self taught for the best part of twenty years and getting reasonable results, after watching your video it's answered all the questions I've been wandering about but not had the answers to, now I know and also picked up another supplier for finishing products, so big thank's for that. Also the video on plating, again, I have one of those kit's but not set it up yet as been too busy being ill, pleased to say I'm loads better and will get cracking with the plating now youv'e answered all the yestions. I have a Honda XL 500, XL 600 and also an old Peugeot ex French Army bike to do, so should get plenty of use.

Cameron to ask, have you tried to plate any large item's, one of the reasons I bought the Caswell kit is because I have a massive collection of vintage two gallon petrol cans which are 12 x 10 x 6 inch's I have a custic tank to strip them and also a Soda blaster to finish them off, I would really like see how one look's like plated, I was going to chrome powder coat one but you can't get them to hot as all the joint's are soldered and experience has proved that they can fall apart. I have 1,000 of these can's along with other vintage item's and of course the bike's.

For the clear coat, or really cleaning any metal you can also soak it in acetone. Simple Green works for cleaning in most cases; but for high carbon build or paint, toss it in a appropriate sized container and let the acetone do most of the work for you... of course if you have the means to own a wet blaster, just use that; but if you do sand blasting it's critical to clean the part as much as possible before blasting it. Otherwise you contaminate the blast media... great video.

Just throwing this out there: sometimes using machines is not always a good idea. Generally I would wash the part. Then I would file down the casting marks. For the flat areas, I glue sand paper to small wooden blocks. I would start with 600 (wet, water and dish soap) and see if it removes the deepest scratches. I then work my way to 2000 grit and then finally the buffer. Something to keep in mind is, all aluminum oxidizes and it happens way faster than you might think. For example, you could be sanding on a part and come back to it in 3 hours, and you’ll have to resand back through the oxidation. You can tell when you get through, the sandpaper will feel like it’s dragging (cutting) more. And when you get your final finish, don’t put anything on it other than wax. If you spray clear coat, the aluminum will oxidate and the clear turns an ugly kind of yellow.
