I buy a lot of sterling silver jewelry. I found out if you keep pieces in individual plastic bags (I use Ziploc sandwich bags) It will keep your jewelry from oxidizing. It's not exposed to air/oxygen. This saves me a lot of time having to clean it on regular bases.

You are correct. I worked for Tiffany & Co. at their sterling silver manufacturing plant in Rhode Island. Once completed, all silver jewelry items are stored in plastic bags until it is ready to be put on sale. They use small poly bags, the smallest size that the item can fit in then they push as much air out as they can when they bag the piece. I have found that I can accomplish the same thing by tightly wrapping an item in plastic wrap. The less air the better. I would also like to point out that the anti tarnish felt and suede bags do NOT work. This is why Tiffany's and others don't use them for long term storage. I found this out the hard way when I opened up boxes of Tiffany jewelry after years of storage and found them all dark with tarnish.

Ok, so I got up, followed your instructions and wa-la. Thank you so much. I'd taken all my Brighten, which isn't silver (I have a lot of Tiffany I'm going to do this with)...to a jeweler. He "threw" it into some vat and I thought ruined it all! It was gunky, rough, brown, basically unwearable. So, nothing to lose. I had to do a few longer because due to Covid they didn't get any wear. But, even though Brighten "isn't real" it's fashionable, not cheap, and I wanted to restore it. I also left some charms on one necklace and the gems were fine. THANK you. I'm sharing this!!!

don't clean your pandora bracelet this way it will destroy your bracelet and charms.
@dannyruiz68686 жыл бұрын
Make sure it's at least 90% silver. If i's mixed with lead or pewter, baking soda should not be used. The baking soda does a chemical reaction with the pewter and silver, and will create a horrible mixture that will completely dull your silver and dull your entire piece. And it's almost impossible to get rid of the dull coat.

Caution: This works well with silver but I don't recommend it for "silver plated" jewelry items. You'll ruin the piece! I used it to clean a long piece of uncut jewelry chain and the plating came off! Use a polishing cloth ~ never dip the piece in any chemical!!

I tried the same what you showed but... all the aluminum melted away in a few seconds and it started to smoke really much and the stench felt pretty toxic also. So... after looking to your vid I think I did something wrong... I used baking soda that I bought at a DIY store, alu foil in the supermarket and hot water, that's it.
@pausebeforeviewtube10 жыл бұрын
given that the melting temperature of aluminum is 660 °C (1221 °F), it wasn't the heat that melted the aluminum. did you use caustic soda instead of baking soda? caustic soda is sodium hydroxide and more commonly known as lye. it is an extremely base chemical, so if you did use it by mistake, i'm surprised you didn't burn yourself. it is extremely dangerous stuff and can be deadly if used without caution. the tooth brush probably saved your hands from becoming soup. always be careful when buying chemicals. i suggest you look into safely storing or disposing of your lye

Not always a simple task if they have been tarnished a long time . But this remedy works great !!! Thank you for the video and the time it took you to make it !

It’s now 2022!😳😂 this cleaning method still works. I put salt, & liquid soap w/ baking soda. Anyways.. I bought a silver add a bead cuff bracelet for $5 ! One bead cost more than that! It wasn’t even really that dirty.. However, cleaned it up, and I wear w/ a small silver bracelet that I never take off unless I clean them. I can’t believe the jewelry at our flea market here in Raleigh NC! Wish I had a friend that liked yard sales. I won’t go alone. Do you?
