My parents and I have been in the business of mass-manufactured jewelry for a while now, most of the stuff is made to be shipped out in bulk to companies like temu, wish, etc. A lot of the manufacturers that make those cheap plated chains actually sell to craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby where you can buy spools of chains. I tend to avoid craft stores for that reason in particular- their chains wear and tarnish within days of use since the plating is so thin. Anyway, lots of their overstock stuff actually ends up on eBay where it's up for auction and sometimes in bulk, and it gets shipped straight from the manufacturer's warehouses, usually from India when it comes to jewelry. And yes, they do falsely advertise their materials even on eBay as "Silver" or "Cast stainless" when it's usually just cheap plated nickel or copper

I buy vintage sterling jewelry and use a strong magnet in the store to test sterling. I've found that even pieces marked sterling or 925 were not authentic. Gold and silver are not magnetic.

Awww the dragon, I hope they can become something better. This was really fascinating & I've had earrings that have said they are sterling silver & they haven't been due to them causing a reaction (turning my ears where I wore them green) it just goes to show we can never really know for sure until things are tested. Kind of upsetting because those earrings were from a small business who I thought would be more truthful/reputable. Have subbed because this truly fascinates me!

Great video Laura! I bought a few pieces of Temu (sterling) jewelry as well and where I do not have testing materials, I could tell a couple of pieces were for sure fake. I know when I purchased some were sus just from the images and some did look legit. I bought the ones that at least looked legit on the images. I didn't pay much at all and knew some would prolly end up looking fake once I had them in my hands. It's pretty much a shot in the dark when you buy from them.

I've bought a lot of jewelry from AliExpress in my time, cheaper ones like to rub off very quickly, and I've spent a lot of days with green stripes from copper oxidation. My wedding ring is 925 silver, and one of my rings is Soviet silver-plated, looks kinda golden now because silver rubbed off, but judging from the faint green on my finger, it's very copper, but the difference is MASSIVE still

Thanks for doing this but to me it really doesn't matter. I've loved my Temu rings and earrings and have never had an allergic reaction to any of them although I normally have a reaction to nickel in jewellery in the past.

Yes! It’s called a testing stone ai believe but I think it’s actually frosted glass. You get it with the kit usually but you can buy them separately, and they also come in white

You can use some of the same chemicals for silver and gold .I think 18k testing fluid can be used for silver too(it shines blue) saves on cost

yes exactly what @mamasyles said! It can be used for testing gold, but it works on silver as well. There is also a silver acid, but it turns a dark red when positive and hard to see against the black stone (although you can get a white stone, or wipe up the liquid on a white paper towel or q-tip to see what it is). Also, sometimes it's erroneous; it's given me a false reading before and I had to have my jeweler test for me. He confirmed that the 18k was right (it was light blue) and the silver test was wrong (I think it didn't turn a color or was maybe brown? I can't remember...). Thanks for watching!

sure, although be warned that the multi-band ring has stones that are "tension set" -- this means they only have 2 prongs holding the stones in, which is not very secure at all and the stones may fall out. ​@@Lauraetcetera I've gotten AWESOME stuff (including jewelry) from Temu for next to nothing. The thing you MUST DO: ALWAYS read the CUSTOMER REVIEWS on every item you buy. Customers post pictures & videos along with their comments. If something is cheap garbage, people will write that in the reviews. Some things actually turn out being NICER than what you expected. In the last year, I've purchased over 100+ rings from Temu. EVERY ring that has arrived damaged, loose stones, etc, Temu immediately refunded my full purchase price AND told me to keep the item. I've only been totally disappointed in maybe 4-5 rings which was my fault. Had I read the customer reviews, I would have seen pictures & comments advising against buying that particular item. There's hundreds of different vendors selling on Temu. Don't get ripped off by the occasional bad vendor. I've found some vendors post NICE pictures of the item they're supposedly selling when they're actually selling a cheap knockoff of what's pictured. They'll post like 10 pictures of an item that looks great but buried in the last of the pictures will be ONE picture of the cheap knockoff they'll send you. Make sure to look closely at ALL the pictures for every item you buy. And again: READ CUSTOMER REVIEWS! Safeguard your purchase. Read those REVIEWS. If there's no reviews on an item yet, I won't buy it. Also - If you see something you want, always do a search (in Temus search bar) on that same item. Many vendors sell the exact stuff for a lot less $$$. And... Different vendors sell same items but in different colors. Check out every color (& size) too. Often, just ONE color (or size) will be on sale for a drastically reduced price. And... If you put something in your cart for any length of time - double check price before checking out. Prices change constantly. If the item in your cart went up in price, another vendor is probably selling it cheaper. I've seen identical items priced for $9 from one vendor while another is charging $45 for the same item. If you buy clothes (or shoes) ALWAYS get out a tape measure. The stuff is made in different countries so sizes are funky. BUT... Click the tiny "size" button. Charts will come up with EXACT measurements of that item along with description of fabric as far as stretchy, very stretchy, no stretch, etc. I've ordered clothes in sizes medium all the way up to 6x (and they're literally the same size LOL). ALWAYS CHECK THE MEASUREMENTS!!!! And OMG their shoes and BOOTS. To die for!!! I'm saving up for a pair of their rhinestone encrusted cowboy boots - the top of the leg part looks like flames. Never seen anything like them! There's another pair that the heels are gold & rhinestones and look like sharks teeth. Hard to explain - you gotta see them. Customer reviews & pictures have all been stellar. Same thing with any knickknacks you buy. Some pictures make items look HUGE when in reality, they're tiny. 99% of the items have the size, dimensions, measurements. Sometimes they're listed in item description. Others are listed on one of the photographs of the item. I'm amazed at the things TEMU offers. Magic Erasers cost a fortune at Walmart and even the Dollar store. I go thru them like crazy. I got an entire CASE (I think there were 24) for under $3-$4. I pay that much for 2 at Walmart! I've had great results with a lot of their makeup too. It costs pennies on the dollar compared to Walmart, Rite Aid, etc. Customer reviews are a must with makeup, especially customers photos. You'll see first hand how nice (or not) makeup looks when applied on real people. Eyeliners, eyebrow pencils, lip gloss, etc. is often less than $1-$2 and I haven't had any problems yet. (I've tried 3-4 cover up foundations, 6-7 lip gloss/stains, 2-3 eyeliners, 4-5 face powders). They've all been quality. Nothing has made me break out, itch, etc... I've gotten awesome accessories for my 5 vehicles - again - pennies on the dollar compated to Walmart & Auto Parts stores. Seat covers, hood emblems, tire valve covers, under car lighting kits, carbon fiber wrap... OMG they have SO MUCH COOL STUFF for your vehicles. I have 5 vehicles. Haven't been disappointed in anything yet. It's also the way to go for gift giving!!! What girl doesn't want sparkly rhinestone studded tire valve caps that match the color of her car? $3 bucks. Or the cool spikey tire valve caps. I asked my neighbor how much he paid for his: $116 thru AutoZone I bought red ones for my Corvette, EXACTLY like my neighbors. He was PISSED when I told him that mine cost under $4-$5 (for the set of 4). And LIGHTS!!! OMG I got these great little light bars. They're motion activated! Got 'em in my closets, cupboards, under cabinets, along my hallway, along the bottom of my bed... You attach them with velcro (comes with light). Sizes are 6" up to 16". Got mine for under $2-$3 each. I plan on ordering 20-30 more. They're great inside cabinets, deep drawers, over dogs bowls, etc. Their bathroom & kitchen faucets are AMAZING!!! Cool ones I've never seen before. Outdoor stuff for your yard too. I'm waiting for my solar fountains (for my bird baths) to arrive. Only $9. They're over $25 everywhere else. And solar lights! They're so inexpensive compared to Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, etc. My yard is lit up like Fort Knox at night and all solar powered. Going to buy more for the trails running thru my back woods. Hope this helps. And no. I don't work for Temu or get anything from them. Just want to warn people on what to watch for so you don't get screwed or disappointed. Once you know what to look out for - You can't go wrong. And no. I'm not happy the stuff comes from China. But it's the exact same stuff you get from Walmart, Amazon, etc. so you might as well cut out the middle man. Money's tight - Bidenomics isn't as great as I've heard it's suppose to be. Getting this stuff at such discounted prices has been wonderful for me. p.s. Heard rumors Temu is supposedly after your information thru their app. I went into app settings. Turned EVERYTHING off (especially notifications). I don't allow anything (location, contacts, camera, etc.). I dont allow it to run in the background. My phone analyzes battery & data usage. I've NEVER had any problem with TEMU app running behind the scenes or battery usage when I'm not using their app.

Thank you for this video. I recently purchased a 1ct moissanite mens ring, which claims to have a base metal of 92.5% silver and is plated in 950 platinum. It was around $50. I do not want to scratch it, so I'm hoping I can drop it on the surface of something and hear the sound. One thing I've noticed on Temu, is that many cheaper (less than $10) that say "100 real sterling silver" on the images, upon further inspection in the description it will say it is plated in 925 silver and the base metal is usually listed as copper. I would like to find a jeweler with the x ray scanner that lists all of the metals and their percentages. A jewelry reviewer (Cubaknow) had his temu silver sent off to be tested and it came back as 92.08% which while not 92.5%, still over 92% silver. That was a tennis bracelet. I'm curious if my center stone is 1ct moissanite or all of the smaller stones along with the center stone make up 1ct of moissanite and the rest are CZ's... no mention of CZs in the full description so I'm not sure. It should arrive around the 12th, so I will keep you updated. I liked and subscribed as I really enjoyed your video, ad placements, and most of all your personality.

I do have a diamond tester linked in the description, not sure where you’re located but for me it was only around $10 and will help determining your moissanite if you’re curious. Also I think most jewelers have the same device if you could take it to them. Yes about the sterling advertising on temu - I always made sure the actual description says it’s 925, not just the title. All of them did so this was quite disappointing! Anyway thanks for watching!

Yup not just jewelers, their manufacturers steal designs for art, home goods, even fish tank decorations (sounds weird but...yup; specialized pieces for caves, etc.). Although maybe it's free game if they aren't patoned? I'll have to look into this...It may be an intellectual property legality but also if they manufacture in another country, it may not be breaking any laws...hmm...anyway Thanks for watching!

You don't scratch jewelry that much if it's real you wrecked it! Always test jewelry from an inconspicuous area!

That was kind of the point actually. Last time I did this people complained I didn’t scratch hard enough so I was proving a point 😜 but you can burnish silver to bring the finish back, re-dip lated items, etc, so not totally ruined. But it doesn’t matter, they’re mine anyway and I don’t care. Also when you say an inconspicuous area, where would you suggest? I always test on the back of the shank furthest from the top.
