@@jenlafferty6781I'd love to see what you're talking about. (Lil plant Guy stands made by your grandfather.) How many pots? What size pots? Did he use different sizes for say his head vs torso? How did he do arms and legs?? Sorry, it sounds interesting, but I'm having trouble envisioning it.

Patina makes pots look appreciated. Some algae and moss with a little white mineral says, "this is an old pot and proud of it".
@blorkflorkernorp97732 ай бұрын
Because the patina wants to kill your echeveria. You want patina, go to an antiques shop and find an old copper or brass bowl and use it to hold your clean pot.

Any tips for if you have extra large or tall pots? Can these be coated in the solution and left before scrubbing instead of soaking?
@claudete19562 ай бұрын
That is exactly what I was looking for. How long do you leave it soaking?

There are two types of people. The ones who rub yogurt on their new pots to make them look aged. And the people who scrub the patina off their pots to make them look new.

I've read somewhere that vinegar while being a herbicide, should't damage the roots. However the last time I did this, I just soaked them again in clean water, I imagine the water "pulls" out most of the acetic acid in the terracotta material again or at least reducing the concentration. Well maybe also because I used 100% vinegar, I'll try mixing it with warm water next time :)

I know this comment is almost a year old, so I hope you have already discovered the wonders of neem oil and how it keeps lots of things off plants! 😊
@katyb2793 Жыл бұрын
@@captainprincess5943 thank you! I have heard of neem oil for pests. I've heard of spraying a solution on the leaves, but are you saying to put it on the outside of the pot?
@captainprincess5943 Жыл бұрын
@@katyb2793 oh, definitely! Of course, not slathered/dripping and sticky with the stuff. I use it like furniture polish. Just a puddle on a damp cloth, squeeze a bit to get it across the rag, and rub on the outside. Keep rubbing if it is too sticky. I switch to a dry cloth if it is still tacky, it will start to shine. If I'm particularly lazy, or trating a plant that's potted, I just spray it with what I spray the plant with and rub it off like any other surface. This doesn't get it shiny, and I suppose it won't act as a barrier like the other method. ETA: This vinegar method in the video is exactly how I clean mine. I learned first hand the importance of letting them dry throughly! This year, am going to try baking them at around 200° to 220°F for 45 minutes to an hour and let them cool completely. (Like you would with cast iron skillets) Wow, as I am typing this, I realize I'm essentially about to season my terra cotta with neem oil! Well, experimentation is the best way to learn, right...?
