Your egr was no where near as bad as mine at 170k but I went one further and removed the intake manifold took all components to my local engine rebuild place here in Bunbury W.A. and had them put it in their sonic bath over night for a couple of hundred bucks came out like new including egr cooler , then cleaned the intake ports as well while replacing the injectors and put the egr plate in with the 7mm hole no fault codes . Runs like a dream 😊

Great video and very informative gold from Dan. Pretty awesome of him to also give you some garage space to do the job!! I live in BNE so if my Prado needs fixing (that is, outside of the Toyota normal servicing and warranty), I’ll make sure I look Dan up. You didn’t go into how/if the EGR clean made a difference to the driveability of the vehicle or will that be in another video? As far as the mechanic job you did goes, I’d give you an 8/10. Really clean product but looks like it took all day and also for making the minor errors twice 🙃 Loving your content 🤙

I have a 1kd-ftv 2014 prado and did a egr and intake manifold clean by putting it into a sonic bath at my local engine rebuild joint over night came up like new also cleaned out the intake ports in the head , new denso injector kit with new fuel pipes 180000 km runs like a dream if ya gunna do something do it right the first time 😉 love it , Regards Neil.

You put the elbow on the EGR valve the wrong way. Easy to do! Good on you for giving it a crack

It might be worth having a look at Anthony Fourby4 diesel’s channel. He works on heaps of these engines and has some good tips. Stay away from the catch can and stick in a 7mm hole blanking plate. Tested by many 1kd owners

Did you not watch the video, fit a catch can because they work and turn the egr off. I’ve had my catch on my 1kd for over 100k and they work, much less build up. As he said the blanking plates are gimmicks.

Hey Jack. Sorry for late reply, I was trying to remember 🙂. I bought the gasket kit from Toyota, so it's the EGR gasket kit. Not sure if you can buy them separately from Toyota or not.

Get a new mechanic if he thinks the purpose of an EGR valve is to recirculate unburnt fuel.

@@prado150outahere 05:08 "... it's taken back through the combustion chamber, and it will reburn any unburnt fuel in that exhaust gas" The whole point of the EGR valve is to introduce inert gas to the cylinder. This reduces the amount of available oxygen so the engine adds less fuel. At low loads the cylinder will not efficiently burn the fuel volumes necessary to maintain correct Air-fuel ratio. At low engine load, introducing an inert gas you can add less fuel, you get a complete combustion with no free oxygen to react. The exhaust gases have cooled in the process of expansion, they add a thermal mass to the contents of the cylinder that avoids the detonation or knock when the flame front advances. The free oxygen you would have if you simply lean the mixture, causing detonation, reacts with the nitrogen and creates the Nox gases that are detrimental to the health of everyone. Adding unburnt fuel of an unknown concentration would contradict the entire purpose of the valve.
