Thank you for taking the time to do this! I have a JD-800 which was doing the exact thing (flickering display) and because I'm terrified of opening and possibly ruining it, I took it in to be "fixed." Yes, I paid several hundred dollars to do so. At least I now know what's involved. I wish you lived here in SoCal.

Great video! i agree with the advice to use isopropyl vs the wide range of "contact cleaning" solutions available. Sometimes it makes the problem much worse or even destroys the control. You have to know which stuff to use for any given fader (they don't all use the same materials) and that's not always straight forward. The isopropyl has also worked for me in the past.

Some faders can be damaged by isopropyl alcohol. Some faders are made form basically conductive plastic mylar. DeOx fader cleaner/lube is common stuff and is safe for all faders and pots. It will wash out any grease in the fader, which can cause premature wear. DeOx also makes fader grease specifically made for faders, so it won't damage the conductive plastic wiper parts.

why can't you use contact cleaner? I normally use a contact cleaner with a lubricant for the faders like silicon. Is that bad for the JD? I tried to look it up but i can't find anything info on it

I use DeOx Fader cleaner. It's safe for all faders. Isopropyl alcohol is not safe for all parts. The cleaner will also clean out all of the grease, and it should be replaced so the fader doesn't wear out prematurely.
