I discovered Citric Acid early this year.. have used it on rusty chain, tools, an old vice, and removing corrosion from copper and brass with great success. Great to see old stuff come back to life!

Citric acid has great results on cleaning and flashing the engine cooling system, it remove the rust and any impurities from the system, it works well if added to the system and car been used for 30 minutes then pure it out, then neutralise the system using soda bicarbonate, thanks for the video mate.

Love following your posts Chris. Saw one on dating bottles the other day that you did. I used to work at AGM in the 80's on the bottle production line. Your description of the company brought back fond memories,

Great job on the big tin. I didn't realise they'd be worth so much money. Nice one.

My uncle has an old lollie tin of my Nan's and from memory it has a little rust, it was interesting to see how your tins came out but now seeing that it can go a little wrong, I don't think ill try it on the lollie tin, thank you for you video, thumbs up!!!

Thanks Melissa - perhaps a test on an inconspicuous spot? But yeah, it may be safer to leave it alone if it's a family heirloom! 👍😊

From my own personal experience, citric acid and vinegar will also dissolve and remove protective galvanized coatings with prolonged contact. It's best to check your items regularly when soaking them in mild acids.

Thanks Ric, yes certainly a regular check is important - especially when cleaning something you haven't done before. Thanks for watching 👍😊

I’ve been using citric acid and I’ve had a couple cans where the paint just rubs right off? Am I soaking them too long?
@TheUltimateRecycler2 жыл бұрын
Possibly PL - but it may be the paint type! I've had similar where some are perfectly fine and yet others suffer badly! I'm very cautious what I use citric acid for these days. Maybe an inconspicuous test spot first..

That’s what I was thinking as well! Thanks a lot for the response I’ll try that next time for sure!

Haha, the funny thing is that I often get old suitcases through my shop and always look at the lining suspiciously! I've seen too many movies perhaps! 🤣
