hey... I used a toothbrush for the canvas part and a very light wire sponge for the souls. I didn't have any of that detergent that you used, so i just added a good lot of sunlight liquid to a small amount of water, and it cleaned them perfectly...the toilet paper works absolutely perfect for the yellowing issue. thank you so much!! I am in love with my vans, and was broken hearted when I had to were them on a bush walk. they were the only shoes I had brought. but now they are as good as new..Thanks to you!!!

The problem with using a brush on black and cream/white checkered vans is it wears the black down. Use a wet cloth instead and don't scrub so hard!

Try scrubbing from the inside instead of direct contact on canvas. Sounds dumb I know, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised

I used this method (minus the toilet paper, just used towel and the sun) and my lizzies that are a suede and baby pink came out really great. Had got grease on them working on my vehicle but they look great now. Minnetonka moccasins has a BAD ASS water repellent that I'm going to use after. Doesn't stain and is eco friendly. Don't use vans brand, it leaves like oil marks and discoloration.

It can be any brand. Or Dove dish soap works great, too. The real gem is using a magic eraser on the white rubber outsoles.

hey! do you have any tips for faded these vans.. i really love these shoes and are special for me but one of the shoe faded and is little white-ish than the other. i do have shoes cleaner but that doesn't work. really hoping for a solution.

Sheesh, those dirty vans look brand new compared to mine . The side soles are almost completely black . Thisnis because i was working as delivery driver - so the built up dirt and scuffs are terrible lol

You could try tossing them in the washing machine and then using the toilet paper trick!😀

@nursemcfarlane6655 baking soda tied in a sock, leave inside shoe over night. You can use essential oils mixxed into the baking soda if you're into that, just don't get it on the shoe or it will leave a horrible stain.
