Great video and clear instructions. One thing I woud recommend is that when you do the spraying with water is to put the lid on the area holding the computer circuit board, so there is no possibility of any damage. I saw droplets getting onto that during your spray, which may or may not weaken the circuitry - best not to take that risk. The last time we had someone maintain our Mitsubishi Air-conditioner, about 3 days later the circuit board failed and I'm sure it was due to the fact that the maintenance person weakened the circuit board by either static electricity (likely becasue he touched it) or water damage (less likely but still possible) .......

I used to be an AC tech and I just wanted to let you know that you did a great job in explaining everything. It had been a few years since I opened up a condenser and I never really worked on a mini split. I feel like you explained everything well without making anyone feel dumb. That circuit board being wide open with the hose out made me cringe a bit. I always tried to cover the electronics with something if it is exposed while cleaning. I've gotten a few wet and dried them before returning power and everything worked out. Thanks for the refresher; I really appreciate it.

Bees in your walls, not a good thing. If they are entering in one spot set a shop vac hose about a 1/2 in from the entrance then turn it on let it sit there for about a hour. I have got rid of some bees once that way. Good luck

Thank you so much for posting this video. I live in the UK and we have one of these fans for our air source heat pump rather than air conditioning. Having bought the house last year that we had rented for 6 years before I was aware that the fan had never been cleaned in the time I had lived in the house. Because it had started making an odd noise and seemed quite clogged at the back I wanted to clean it. I couldn’t find any companies locally who would look at it and was really worried until I found your video. Your step by step demonstration on how to take it apart, clean it and put it back together was fantastic. It has taken me most of the afternoon but it’s running so sweetly now. I was shocked at how much I managed to clean out of it. Thank you so much for posting. This video was so helpful. The clean out will now become an annual event I think to keep it looking great and working so much more efficiently.

A vacuum cleaner with the brush on the end like what you use to vacuum off the electronics in the outside unit, can generate a rather large static charge that can destroy electronics! I would recommend instead of a vacuum getting a can of to blow it off. I think one of the brand names is called liquid air or canned air. They are made especially for cleaning off electronics! I enjoyed your dissertation! I am planning on installing these mini splits in my house that I am buying which currently the folks have been heating with a wood stove! It has no central heating system at all!

I am in Oz and have a similar Mitsi split system. Very good video and excellent presentation skills. I live fairly close to the ocean and the salt laden air does not do the outdoor unit any favours. Its important for me to keep the fins as clean as possible to stop corrosion. Thanks mate.

The little filters are the pollen filters, some people are allergic to pollen or fine dust. Those little filters provide a bit releave.

In two phases of construction, I've had four independent Mitsubishi Mini-splits installed in my home (one in each of two bedrooms and two in my Great Room). A total of five different Mitsubishi-certified tech guys were involved, and ALL of them tossed those little white interior filters (seen here on the inside unit) as "a joke." I'm no engineer, but it's hard to believe that "somehow" they collect enough pollen to be worth trifling with. I saved them in my garage and would welcome an authoritative showing that those tech guys are wrong, in which case I'll install them. Also, they said that if dust somehow gets past those indoor unit filters and onto those evaporator fins, then just take a strong paper towel, then wet it, and carefully drag it from top to bottom to clean them.

Having an oatmeal bath because of shingles disease. Enjoying this man having his coffee. My unit is a two yr old lennox. I wanna do this job too. I ll bet it would nice to take off the Propeller ta gain access and to more easily clean it. Bet its not made for taking on and off easily. Cracks on the pipe insulation suggested 3,4 yrs old? First big cleaning? Getting to it while its still reversible to factory condition. Cool! Minus some rust.

I was curious if you might know where to get the little white filter and casing for the inside filters that u washed in the sink. Another exceptional video. I followed this and successfully cleaned my outdoor Mitsubishi outdoor units (same as yours). Unfortunately I hit a big snag on one of my two units when I found what appeared to be an old mice nest in the bottom of the right side where the compressor is. They messed up all the insulation etc. Did a thorough cleaning and replaced all the insulation with an R 6.7 basic glass wool insulation roll. Think I did okay. Only thing that sucks is I couldn’t clean much of the stuff (hopefully was just dirt and not mice stuff but probably the latter lol m) that was stuck/dried up in the heart of the electronics bc was afraid of damaging them but at least they didn’t get into the condenser coils and the coils are “sparkly clean.” I used the same foam cleaner as you and it was great). Definitely be mindful of potential rodent issues with these units👍 happy Memorial Day

Thank you Jim! Just had a 30K BTU with 3 head 'hyper heat' Mitsu system put in my home (Aug. 24th) to replace central system. I was given a review on cleaning the filters by the installers, but wanted to know more about the outdoor inverter. I noted the black foam on your lines which was like my central, dried out a bit. However, the new lines for my system are all in foam with aluminim jacket on the outside. I also waxed the outside as well, but very good to see what you spray with water and keeping the distance from the 'mother board' (O: Looking forward to see how these work as heaters for the winter vs. my 43 year old gas furnace. Thanks again!

Love videos like this, they help so much nowadays. So I have pretty much the same system with some minor differences, the very first one being the removal of what you call the front piece (grill), mine is not attached by outside screws and has only 3 screws for the top piece, so I’m not sure how the grill piece is attached. I’m always leery of taking things apart just to “find out”, hopefully you have some insight. Thank you so much for posting this!

Great video Jim - I've been doing these cleans for about 12 years professionally down in Australia. Those small filters inside your evaporator are pollen filters which help reduce hayfever and other allergies.
