Good video! One really good leason for me was learning proper trigger controll. Always push down for air first and then pull back for paint, then release the paint flow forward before releasing the air flow. This reduces a lot of problems like an airbrush spitting piant left on the needle/nozzzle!

Agreed! Prevent any paint from sitting in the nozzle.

I also find picking up a cheap sonic cleaner super helpful for those deep cleans, the Badger 105 you have there is a total workhorse of an airbrush and I hightly recommend it for just how hardy and simple it is to use and clean. Great video!

sonic cleaners are amazing for everything. simple green, dawn dish soap, water. Great for automotive parts, like carbs and such.

Couldn't have come at a better time. Bought myself an airbrush literally today its coming tomorrow. Can't wait to use it. Gonna use your cobalt necrons speedpainting video and then airbrush some osl. Thanks

Right on! It takes some getting used to (especially assembly/disassembly - which you don't need to do often). I'd recommend just using it to prime miniatures to start off - get used to the feel of it. Always put a little thinner in first, before you add paint or varnish.

Just started using an airbrush and I’ve learned I’m using way too much cleaner. Thanks!!

Yeah it doesn't require a lot. I've even seen some people use half water, half cleaner.

Pretty much matches what i just learnt on a course that included some airbrushing except the back flow bit, they didn't mention that. I like it when people I trust agree on things, makes it easier to know you are doing the right thing when copying them.

I usually use cotton swabs for cleaning. I find the best ones are the firm, pointy swabs used for manicures. The "Nail Tees" brand is great, but you can get cheaper ones from drugstores that work just as well. A damp swab is especially good for cleaning dirty airbrush needles. You can push the needle right into the swab, which is also great for cleaning out tip dry. Any time I notice bubbles forming in the paint cup, that's a sign that paint is collecting on the needle tip, and a swab will fix it very quickly. Just be sure to blow off any extra cleaner/water before resuming paint flow.

Great tips! I was always worried that cotton fibers would break free of the swab, but I've definitely seen other people use them.

i bought mine like a year ago after i broke the first one, this time i went all in on like 500 euros for the compressor and brush but the fear of using it was too much, now i know how to clean it and i might start to use it
I have been backflowing for years, but recently saw that it could leak back into the trigger assemby.Worth considering, maybe higher psi when backflow. I know sometimes I crank up the psi when cleaning. Good, consise video airbrush cleaning

I always wondered if that was what was jamming up my trigger. I usually just do a quick & gentle backflow, but I'll do some trial and error to see if backflow is causing trigger issues.

My Iwata Eclipse really doesn't like backflow. It tends to make bubbles blow out of all of the seals! Since then I try to avoid backflow as much as possible.

the cleaner solution for your airbrush does depend on the paint kind you use

I'm sure that this is a very good guide, but even this is too much bother for me! Which is why I gave away my airbrush...

I hear ya. I used to feel the same way. I had my airbrush for 2 years before I decided to give it a serious effort. Now that I'm comfortable with it, things go smoothly and I enjoy using it. But I used to HATE the airbrush, and couldn't figure out why people used them :D
