Great video Lloyd. One tip I religiously abide by however. Release the firing pins on both barrels prior to cleaning the inside of the receiver. This will (mostly) prevent gunk & whatever else from being pushed inside the holes, and 1)...possibly cause light strikes (down the line) from clogged firing pin channels, and 2)...unwanted crap being pushed even further into the action itself, especially when being blasted by a high pressure spray can. BTW......the reaction of the young mate at time marker 27:52 was hysterical !

I agree with many here: use a soft/very soft toothbrush , or dedicated gun brushes in many places, they work wonders. I do have a caveat here, though: Do NOT use the same cloth to do your final wipedown on your exterior action/ barrels as you do to wipe up/ clean dirt/ grit/ grunge from inside the gun's action area. All it takes is 1 speck of silica grit, or a small metal filing to truly bugger up your barrel blueing. Always use a clean, freshly oiled cloth.

Merry Christmas! I'm pleased to say that I clean my gun using the same kit, including the cotton buds for applying grease. I use my childs old toothbrush to get in and around the block and Scotchbrite to clean the mating faces, it's less abrasive than wet'n'dry. Great video with some good points too. Thanks Lloyd and Co.!

I've found either paper towel from ths kitchen or work shop paper towel pushed through the barrel is the best way. Generally I simply scrunch it up into the barrel then push through. Ffs make sure you check barrels are clear of any obstruction when done. Try it and see how much crap comes out on the paper.

By far the best gun cleaning tutorial I've watched, I shoot a Guirini and as you say the the chambers are the the hardest to clean, I might invest in a magic bore after a bit of research. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lloyd, I,m very particular about cleaning my gun as well, great review, realised I am doing it right!, just a little tip which may help some people - when I clean the ventilated rib and under the top rib I use wood pigeon feathers coated with a small amount of gun oil, gets in everywhere, just a thought.

Really good video Lloyd, really informative. Only thing I would like to have seen is how you guys would clean the chokes and, in particular, the threads inside the barrels. Would you use the Payne-Galway? I’m always concerned about a rogue fibre getting wedged in the threads causing the chokes to stick!

Thank you for such a comprehensive video. I'd like to ask you, can we spray a barrel from outside with oil that we use for bore cleaning, for removing led? Will not it harm bluing of the shotgun, as it contains base? I use Ballistol gun oil, it is "CLP" one.
@lloydyp
@lloydyp 4 жыл бұрын
I use Phillips but only ever on the inside, I dont imagine it would harm the bluing but never needed to use it on the outside of the barrels.

Google 10,000 grit wet and dry. It’s very very very fine sandpaper used wet. To be used extremely sparingly.

Is there any lead fouling in the barrel if all the shot stays in the shot cup on modern day shot shells? Aren't we really just cleaning burnt plastic and powder out of the barrels?

What rods and gun clean kit do you use, most won’t let you go through the barrels as they have a handle or wide end that won’t pass, and what jag did you use? Cheers
@lloydyp

I use a 2 piece aluminium rod that I have glued together so it's a 1 piece. I dont use a jag as they are utterly useless, I use 2x4 on an old retired payne gallway brush.

A couple of points to note regarding Magic Bore kits. Firstly with the drill kit please DO NOT use any oil or solvent with it it doesn't need it and works much better and quicker without it. The Drill should only be used on it's slowest speed and in forward motion only. For the ultimate time saving complete clean without getting dirty team it up with the hand kit and do all that is shown in the video in about 2 minutes. A Paradox after a drill kit is counter productive use the handkit.
@guy1234484
@guy1234484 2 жыл бұрын
Have both the drill kit and the hand kit and have been using them for a few months now. Both absolutely brilliant and made cleaning so much easier and more thorough. Best thing is if I go shooting for a weekend away and I can shove the hand kit in the boot with a small can of cleaning, a small pack of patches and a cloth and know I can keep the gun clean without much effort

@@lloydyp from the horses mouth. Yes is better to do not use metallic brush for the barrel !! the suggestion anywhere is to clean well the chamber to avoid the ammunition residual on it ( plastic ammunition ) To remove the stock is necessary the long screw driver ! nothing special ( of course for the original Perazzi stocks ) We remain with Best regards It was a discussion regarding am MX4 so maybe concern about earlier barrels? But I thought bronze brush is softer than steel so no way it can damage it.

heres a tip, skip the gun branded grease and just buy automotive lithium bearing grease. I last paid $4 for a huge tube 10 years ago and haven't scratched the surface. by contrast i also have blaser choke tube lithium grease which costs $30 for a tiny tube and I'm almost 100% is exactly the same stuff.
