This is so wrong, oil will cause wood to blacken all the time. Solvent and oil are 2 different things and should not be used interchangeably. Solvents by any manufacturer are mineral spirits with other scents mixed in, that is not good for a wood stock, it a thinner. Especially on oil finished stocks, that are not sealed. Gun oil and protectants are 90%+ mileral oil which is also isn’t good for gun stocks. If you have an oil finished stock, don’t do anything other than wiping it down with 100% Cotton Flannel and definitely not microfiber. Periodically use your bare fingers and rub in boiled limseed oil never add a solvent such as any CLP

G96 Gun Treatment, which is the product we demonstrate, is a petroleum based product. It cleans, lubricates, and protects your gun in one operation. We have used it for over 30 years and have never experienced it affecting oil finished stocks. We do not purposefully use it for wood, it just won’t harm it if you get overspray on the wood.

Yes, petroleum products are solvents, paint thinner, gasoline. 30 years? You must have been cleaning shotguns in your crib.

@@aviationnationhd3760Well buddy, I’ve been using petroleum based gun oils, gun scrubber, Hoppes #9, Break fee CLP, LP, Remington oil, Krieghoff grease, CRC electronic parts cleaner (safe on plastics and wood finishes), and everything in between on my Krieghoffs, Berettas and Perazzi O/U shotguns for a cumulative 40 some years. I’ve used them all. My wood gun finishes look great. No issues.
