The protective light oil is mostly Camellia oil. And as suggested, wax is a better top coat because it will reduce friction and help your wood glide more smoothly.

I might try the wax next time, it is looking like it could do with another clean. The oil is great, still pretty smooth and I don’t find anything getting stuck while pushing through…

Thanks for the Video, my table saw also need the same treatment. Nice to see an Aussie making wood working videos on KZbin. I live in Sydney and it's good to get links to the Amazon AU site. Thanks - Steve

Thanks Steve! Great to meet a fellow Aussie, cleaning it only took 20mins or so and I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier.

That Japanese oil looks very similar to some food safe oil that I bought from Carbatec some years ago. This video is very timely as I have a band saw table to de-rust,,,,

It honestly didn’t take very long to clean all the tools up…funny thing to watch out for was the overspray with the WD40, which made the epoxy floor really slippery.

Just a suggestion. Instead of the oil at the end, try car wax. It not only seals your cast iron, it creates a nice slick surface. Another plus is you probably already have some, no additional purchase required. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you! I do have some laying around. I was thinking of trying Carbon Coat but it is pretty expensive to get in Australia.

Paste wax works well as well.

I heard that too, isn’t the Johnson stuff impossible to source these days?

@@RichmondWoodworksyup. They discontinued it. Here in the states we use Minwax now, but I’d imagine any with little/no die would be fine. Car wax would probably work fine too, I think paste wax being “the thing” is likely just cause woodworkers have it around. “When you’re a hammer” and all. :)

Next time I am in the US, will need to grab some. I am sure border control will be fine with it!

nice vid mate - question that I've meant to ask for a bit while watching your vids - what table saw are you using? looks to have a decent extension in the fence adjustment I've also cleaned up table tops starting with a Jex pad, then moving to my DA polisher with a a heavy cutting compound, and working up to a polished finish, same as you would with a car

Thank you! I got the Laguna 2021 Updated Fusion 2 F2 Table Saw from Carbetec in 2022. Great saw, very happy with it, although the dust collection could be a little better. That fence comes with it as standard and has 910mm rip capacity, which an amazing step from the DeWALT job site saw I had before.
