@NeilD1633 жыл бұрын
@@hashishsenju2015 No its not true, you could put a clear wrap over but the factory coatng will still degrade if left in place, sanding then applying a wrap will still leave you with sanding marks whereas clear coat fills the tiny scratches in to give the lens its clear apperance.

@@hashishsenju2015 they were talking out their butt. if clear coat supposedly effects the beam pattern how do they not expect an even thicker less clear and uniform layer of wrap to effect it as well? headlights are clear coated from factory. This is fantastic and gives me a lot of confidence going into my headlight restoration project. Just a couple questions, I'm going to have my headlights split apart for other reasons, restoring reflector chrome + projector retrofit, is clearcoating the lenses better to do on the car? If I could do it off the car, how should I set up the lenses so that I can be sure to get them coated nicely? I was thinking of masking the inside of the lenses and taking care not to touch inside. I'm also planning to use a "Spraymax" 2k clear in a spray can, I don't have access to a compressor unfortunately. As long as the prep is proper, could I still expect a decent result out of a can as from a gun? Thanks!
@pavmik13 жыл бұрын
Hey! I would do it off the car but probably after you do everything you need to do on the inside. I would even do it after installing the lens back to the housing. My curiosity (and for preface I haven't used a clear coat like this before) but with all the clear coats I have tried what I notice is that my headlights get hazy for some reason. Is there something I am getting wrong ? Would that be the clear coat I use or could it be in the system I use.
@pavmik13 жыл бұрын
Hey, well I’d try this way. But I had to learn the hard way myself. I’ve had clear coat crack up on the lens. And sometimes it would get hazy but that was because it was very humid. Try doing it on a warm dry day. And make sure you sand off all the old clear before you start moving up in grit. What grit would you normally finish sanding with? It would have to be at least 1000 wet sand for good results. But no more than 1500 so it has something to grab on to. Let me know if something I said doesn’t make sense and I’ll try explaining better.
@benblackburn26933 жыл бұрын
@@pavmik1 that makes sense. Last time I tried to use the 3m kit which goes 500, 800 to I think they go up to a 3000 but I finished off with the rainex clear coat which is a rubbing more than a spray applicant. I find it looks fine for the first 5 minutes but as it dries it gets hazy
@pavmik13 жыл бұрын
@@benblackburn2693 yea lol those 3m kits are a joke. The biggest thing to get the best result is prep work. If you think you sanded all the 320 grit scratches off with 600. Get a brand new 600 grit sandpaper and sand it really good for another 5 minutes. Do the same for all the other grits as well. Because the deeper scratches are the hardest to get rid of but they will show up the best once you lay the clear down. I use a 2:1 ratio high solids euro clear coat. I find that the best option as far as what works on headlight lenses. The only issue with that is. Nobody wants to spend $100 + on a gallon of clear coat that will just sit there after you are done with the lights unless you have something else to use it on.

I did a test spot with some compound and polish (rotary) to see if I removed the sub p1000 scratches successfully. I noticed that I got some really deep scratches that won't come out anymore no matter how much I sand with p400 or 600 They seem to be much deeper. Wait you don't polish it before clearcoat? I polished mine D:
@pavmik12 жыл бұрын
No. That beats the whole purpose of sanding. You need the scratches for the clear coat to hold on to. I’m curious how long yours will last

What gun you use
@pavmik14 жыл бұрын
Aldo Torres for this one I used the iwata LPH400 with the purple cap. But right now I use the GTi pro lite with the T110 air cap. Both guns are really good. But honestly you can use any gun. Just turn the pressure up higher to about 28-29 psi and move quickly.

Can I use a 1k Clearcoat?
@pavmik13 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you can but I’d use 2k. It gives better results.

2k clearcoat as no uv protection and is a nightmare to remove trust me!!
@kachi44362 жыл бұрын
Wanna use alcohol instead of water and dish soap. , dish soap can act funny with the clear sometimes depending on residue.
@sk8sloppy982 жыл бұрын
all you need is the 600. 2000 is to fine to topcoat. read the tds
@pavmik12 жыл бұрын
600 is too coarse. It leaves scratches underneath the clear coat. It lasts longer than 5 years the way I do it.
@thomasdemarco6173 жыл бұрын
yes I then sanded them out tried again and came back
@pavmik13 жыл бұрын
It’s the clear coat. Not all clears react well with the type of plastic the lens is made out of. If you glean get a hood of 2:1 high solids euro clear those never gave me any issues. But they have to be sprayed out of a gun

Step by step is tell us how you made the clear mix. You need clear hardener and reducer
@elmakednos3 жыл бұрын
I did it 5 years ago with 4 layers and I failed. Two layers is the best solution. I agree. It will last for two years the most.
@EazyDuz182 жыл бұрын
you meant to spray it after 600 grit

Lol wtf is this 😆. I might be wrong but I spent 10 minutes on mine and it still clear after 1 years
