How to Clear Error Code B200 on Canon Pixma Printer

OMG- I called Canon technical service and they told me that the b200 meant I needed to buy a new printer... This is the video that saved my Pixma from going out to the trash today! Thank you so much- you are amazing. 🤩

I cannot thank you enough! I initially had a B200 error on my Canon PIXMA MG5520 and then, after unplugging and restarting it, the error support code turned to the dreaded 1403 ("The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head.") I unplugged it and left it alone for about 5 days, not as part of a plan, but just because I had other priorities to address. When I turned it back on, the B200 support code returned and, thankfully, wonderfully, spectacularly, I found your video! Worked like a charm. Once I got to the "home" screen, I chose "settings," then "maintenance," and cleaned the printhead and checked the nozzle (which indicated it was clogged). So I auto cleaned it again and it indicated it was unclogged. Whoo Hooo! Thank you so much for your wonderful video and for helping to save the environment from heaps of perfectly good printers that just need the right fix. Back to printing!!

IT WORKS! Here are the details for MX922. Power down, unplug, move ink carriage & changed out all the ink cartridges. Plug in, powered up keeping the lid open till the ink carriage moved to center. Lid closed, got the menu. Went to print nozzle pattern and process started, then, the MX922 shut down. Power process repeated, got B200 code again. Called Canon, the representative said that B200 code printer is dead, could be anything and there are no more Canon repair centers. Then saw another video explaining the B200 code is printer head problem, not anything else. That video stress, remove the printer head and tap water wash. The MX922 removal is a bit complicated. Therefore, I re-seated the cartridges, started up again, got the menu. Went straight to deep clean. Got thru that, then nozzle pattern print out, got that, then did auto alignment. Still got menu control, went to copy and did a text print out. It work!!! If that had failed, then either remove print head for washing or use damp q-tips. Yet, the 303 solution work. The key, if you get the menu screen, go right to deep clean. Another suggestion from the second video, update driver to have the latest. Big Thank You 303!!! Happy New Year! For those that still get an error code when they try to print the test pattern even after following these instructions try something else. Go ahead and replace the last ink cartridge you changed while the printer is off. Then turn the printer on as described in the video. Go to the menu-->maintenance-->deep cleaning-->print the test page. It worked for me right after I did this.

I can to this video to say just this ha. Beat me to it. I got the error code to go away, and as soon as I did, I did the deep cleaning mode first. I have the MX920 model, so I don't know if this model in the video has the same ink cart contacts, but I also took an extra step and pulled all the ink cartages out of my model and used a microfiber cloth with 90% isopropyl alcohol to clean off the gold pins that make contact with my ink carts. Let them dry a bit, and then did the deep clean step.

I cleaned the printhead, put in new cartridges, and tried to clear the error code but the B200 keeps coming back so I ordered a new printhead. But before I received the new printhead, I decided to give it one more try. I followed your instructions carefully and the reset process worked this time. Thank you

Id kept my printer in storage for a few years and left the ink cartridges in it (woops - wont be doing that again!). Id replaced the cartridges, cleaned the printer head like you explained and it works perfectly! I did have to reset it a couple of times afterwards but it got there! 3 years ago I started receiving the B200 error on my Canon Pixma iP4850. I fixed the problem by using your methods and worked. A year later the error reappeared and cleaned the ink cartridge manually and reset it and worked. Since October last year the error returned and fixed it. Came back a month later and fixed. Now in January 2025 after not using the printer for a month the error came back and removed the cartridge which I noticed some ink leaking. I cleaned the cartridge manually and reset the printer and to no avail it won't print because of the error. I really don't want to purchase a new printer as I love this iP4850. I've had this printer for 14 years as it's been excellent. I think the printhead has worn out after 14 years as I'm going to take the risk and purchase a new print head even if it's an aftermarket copy. You can find one on ebay and Amazon at a decent price. I hate to have this printer go into landfill.

Thank you for this video. My initial B200 error was due to a clogged print head, after several months of storage. The yellow nozzles had a spiky carpet over them, and the black was just plugged. I took a day to soak and rinse the head clean. After reinstalling with fresh ink I still had the B200 error. Your procedure was just the trick to get the head to reset. The print quality is again great. Many thanks.

Great video, unfortunately it did not work for me. I had really high hopes while watching and trying to fix the B200 error on my MG5420 as the video instructs. I had new ink cartridges as I was running real low on ink but got the B200 code before replacing the ink cartridges. It did not work for me but happy to see it did help many other people.

Ok, no joke, this worked after approx 2 months of failed attempts to fix my canon pixma mg 6220. I tried cleaning the old print head 3 times, then bought a new print head thinking that would solve the issue....but the error message was still present. I followed your step-by-step instructions and although it took me several attempts (it seems the longer I left it unplugged, the better it was at resetting), It finally worked! I want to add that I also removed the printhead cartridge and washed it thoroughly with water removing tons of ink and also wiped it down with several alcohol swabs which also removed additional ink then replaced the print head cartridge replaced the individual ink cartridges then did your step-by-step instructions and it worked like a charm!! I used to use an Epson ET-2550 kzbin.infoUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.

Ultimately mine was a simple fix. I put the print head in a sauce pan, making sure that the head side and the circuit side was NOT down in the hottest part of the pan. Then I simmered it for about 20 minutes, the set it on a paper town head side down on the towel for 24 hours. This will completely clear and clean any hardened ink. SHAZAM! It cleared the error and is printing almost like new.

This worked with my MP560! I had tried to clean the printhead (which it needed desperately) and no matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of the error UNTIL your video! I'd been away for 10 weeks and a couple of cartridges had dried out, and I got the B200 message. I removed the printhead and put it in a bowl with 1/2 inch of warm water in it, and let the caked-in ink dissolve and wash out. I moved the head around gently in the water and changed the water several times until it remained almost clear. After drying the printhead with a lint-free cloth, I put it back in the printer and it now works fine. I recommend this fix.

I'm impressed! This kinda worked... (MX925) I stopped using the printer part a while ago because this machine was just draining ink cartridges like crazy w/o me printing anything (known issue). Then the print head "died" (probably had an existential crisis, I guess)... fine by me - I just used its rather decent scanner unit in combination with a USB drive. Today it told me via the dreaded B200 message that it is "even more dead" now and that I should contact Canon service. Like hell I will. ... Thanks to your advice I was able to partly resurrect it - but it took me about 15 iterations of the process - w/o installing new cartridges of course. What seemed to have worked was this: give it a couple of problems so it can't obsess about the dang print head: I jammed in a USB drive and wiggled the paper tray... so when booting it was complaining about the USB drive and a paper jam - but the B200 thing was not an issue any more and I could scan in my pages as usual.

The root cause of the B200 error could also be the bent pins that mate with the cartridge chips. They bend with time due to multiple cartridge insertions over years. Each cartridge chip (a SIM card lookalike little PCB) has corresponding 5 pins located in the print-head carriage. The pins should all be nicely aligned, pointing straight up. Once aligned, a bit of clean with a cotton bud and isopropyl will do the trick. B200 error gone.

the B200 error has multiple causes on multiple canon printers. B200 can also mean that the print head is clogged.

If the print head is clogged and you have tried cleaning and B200 error still remains it's time for a new print head or printer dont waste your time trying to resolve the issue buy a new printer instead saves time and effort.

Didn't work for me. I bought a printer used cheap from a lady who said she left it in the three season porch for the winter, so I knew the print head was most likely electrically or physically gone from deep freezing. Found a new one for $40. This video was the best of help. Do not let your printer freeze while you are away for the winter.

All I did was take out the 5 cartridges on my MS922 and then it worked fine. Thanks !

Thank you. I have Canon MX925. The printer advised one ink cartridge needed replacing but then switched to show error B200. I have changed the empty cartridge and copied your instructions but this has not repaired the printer. It's still showing B200. I would appreciate if you can help further. Best regards Ken Smith.

Thanks heaps, thought I was gonna have to buy a new printer. So glad I found you. I did replace the bigger black cartridge. May have been the problem even though I didn't get a message which you normally do. Thanks again. Then it stopped again and I got B200 error message

Like @ScrumScrums I don't normally comment on videos like this, but it actually works. The key is the timing of when you close the lid. It has to be during the left to right transition. If it completes and you get the close the lid message, it is already too late. Merci
