How To Clear The "Charging Device Via USB" Error, On Google Pixel Phones - Workaround

This tutorial will show you how to charge your phone if your device has stopped responding to being plugged into your wall charger. This is a simple workaround to buy you some time to allow the phone to correct itself.
Once the phone is able to switch from "Connected Device" to "This Phone" under USB Preferences without being plugged into anything, you may be able to connect it to a wall charger and resume charging it normally. This may require several reboots and plugging the phone into various devices like a PC or portable charger.
I believe this is a software bug, Google has not addressed it yet despite it being a common problem on many forums. If this temporary solution ends up being more trouble than what the phone is worth to you, you may be forced to upgrade unfortunately.

Not currently, I'll post another video if I do find a more permanent fix. This method did give us another 5-6 months of use where the error was cleared for awhile. I'm trying to figure out why it pops up in the first place. Do you use a third party charger?

I fixed it with a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol and also a toothpick to pick at the dirt on the pins

Check for obstruction, that's about it. You might have lint or debris in there.

@@ShareXP it's perfectly fine, its just not wanting to let me control it through the phone. File transfer and etc. is working just fine for my xbox and pc from my phone. It just refuses to let me use my adapter to connect to the TV. If it was a simple fix I wouldn't have asked lol. It's definitely something software wise.

Drop my phone in water, the USB port kept going back and forth from turning off due to water detection. Now M m 1:47 y battery is total depleted, and now the USB port will not let me charge. Any ideas how get around this?

Update: read edited below 👇 also pin this comment started showing up this issue since this past 1 week , also not charging most of times , i had to plug unplug switch off switch on multiple times to make the pixel 4a charge , also this prompt is shown ... Is anyone else facing a similar issue , if yet did u solve it Edited : Guys , after trying to reset, roll back to Android 12 , cleaning ports nothing worked. Atlast the only option was to send to the service center , but since it's far i decided not to send. Surprisingly after some days after I started facing issues , like two weeks automatically the issue got resolved just like how the issue started in the first place .. My suggestion to others facing this in pixel 4a just wait for 2-3 weeks if you're facing the issue it will get resolved!

"To correct itself" ??? IMHO... the 'Real Work A Round' is to toss this junk they call the Google Pixel (4a 5g in my case ), and get another brand. I bought mine new in April 2021 and it is now July 2022, and I am lucky if the battery last one 12 hr day after fully recharging. Now just in the last few days, the lightning port is not always making a solid connection!!! Google discontinued my model and went with a 5a within a yr of first manufacturing the 4a. And now in less than 2 yrs, they are up to the 6a. Maybe they will get the '7a' right??? Ridiculous. I should NEVER have left Samsung, or iPhone. It won't happen again!

Yeah, it is unfortunate.. we never had this issue with other phone brands.. but this worked in our favor short term. You can attempt cleaning the prongs in the charging port, other users have found success with that.

If cleaning the port with a toothpick didn't work, this method will allow you to charge your phone and move your files to a different device. It's a bandaid on a deeper problem.
