the side button simply shows the dock, that is not showing running apps. swiping left to remove actually removes the app from the dock. but if you have your settings so that the side button shows running apps, then swiping left does work to turn a running app off.

What 'Setting' are you specifically referring to when you say 'so that the side button shows running apps'? Are you referring to the 'Dock' setting where you can choose between 'Recents' OR 'Favorites'? I don't see any sort of specific setting called 'Side Button'. Are you by any chance describing the 'Dock' setting with 'Recents' selected, and then swiping left does unload a running app? That's the only thing that I can figure out that is close to what you appear to be describing. If you have 'Favorites' chosen, which I've started to use lately, I can't figure out any way to unload apps that are running in the background. Only your 'Favorites' will be displayed no matter what, all the time, which is how it is intended to work. The by-product of that, as I just mentioned is you can't get access to apps to unload them.

@@jonRboy yes, it is the dock setting in the watch app on your phone. by setting it to recents, that will then show everything running as well as recents. then you can swipe left on any that you want to close. i’ve had to do this because the radio keeps auto launching and running down my battery. apple needs to improve on this problem so we can use the dock however we prefer as well as be able to see all running apps.

@@flickeringcandle Thanks for the clarification. Just to be clear: It is my observation that this dock setting seems to be set to ‘recents’ by default, in other words ‘out of the box’. I say this because when I first started using my series 8 watch, my first Apple Watch as a new user, before I learned about or knew a lot of the various tweaks and settings, this dock setting was set to ‘recents’. It wasn’t set to ‘Favorites’ until I did it myself, after I learned that there was a choice. So it seems the default setting for this feature, as implemented by Apple is the one that allows the user to unload apps by swiping left. My point was that if the user does decide to change this setting to ‘favorites’ that option to unload apps / stop them from running is gone. I’d like to know if there’s another way to do that, if someone likes to have the dock set to ‘Favorites’.

@@jonRboy i’ve researched to find the only other way to shut down an app is to know which app is running, pick it from the all apps screen, while the app is open press and hold the crown to get the shut down screen and shut down the app and this is rediculous.

@@flickeringcandle Thanks for this info. I guess I had forgotten that 'all apps' is always visible at the bottom. I really have only noticed it after I've 'left swiped' all my apps when using 'Recent' for the dock setting. Hmmm...holding the Crown typically starts Siri. And even when you disable that for starting Siri, I still can't get any sort of shut down screen from just pressing the crown. I do know that pressing crown and side button at the same time forces a reboot. So, I'm not following you. Even with that said this hardly seems like an effective method...even if I could get it to work. It's difficult to know exactly what apps are running. What I find is a workaround that seems reasonable is just switching over to 'Recents', 'left swiping' all the running apps, then you can switch back to 'Favorites'. The apps you selected as your 'Favorites' are still saved, so you don't have to set that up again. It's just a matter of toggling from 'Favorites' to 'Recents' and back to 'Favorites' again.
