I’m struggling a lot with burn coding. Most of my answers are wrong in the exercise on your website. I don’t know why. There seems to be many similar codes. Also some of the questions are not specific. For example in two of the questions it says back burn. But it doesn’t specify if it’s upper or lower back. In the index it specifies whether it’s upper or lower back. I didn’t know which one to choose. Also there are some very similar codes in the x category for exposure to smoke fire and flames. I end up choosing one that isn’t the correct code but similar to it. Can you make another lesson in-depth about burn cases?

First, its taking too long to find appropriate codes for the "How" and "Where" of the injury and second, if I pick a code based on my interpretation of the place the injury occured...will it be marked as a incorrect answer on the CPC test? Please let me know. Thank you
@codingwithhoang2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amina. It's a multiple choice questions exam so the external cause codes are already listed in either A, B, C or D so all you have to do is to look them up in the index and find out which code matches the description in the report. You should tab your book (V00-Y99) for external cause so that you can turn to these pages faster. I hope it helps.

Hi Sonia. Coding skin tags removal is very simply and straight forward. Regardless of where it is being removed or the method is being used, there are only two codes that you can use for this procedure: 11200 for removal of skin tag, up to 15 lesions and an add on code 11202 for each additional 10 lesions. Noticed same thing on slide regarding External Cause Codes--it has listed 1), 3), and 5)--but not 2) and 4). I hope I am making sense! Hi Sir Nguyen, I enjoy your videos very much as I am doing advanced learning and reading before my proper coding training in preparation for my exam. I just noticed that for the Coding workout for boiler explosion in steamship, I have a question for 17:14 W35 refers to boiler explosion not on watercraft (machinery), wont V93.59XA would be proper? and remove V93.09XA?
@codingwithhoang3 жыл бұрын
V3.09XA is an explosion on board unspecified water craft VS W35.XXXA explosion and rupture of boiler. Remember these external cause codes are intended to provide data for injury research and evaluation of injury prevention and they have no effect on reimbursement so let's say there are 100 codes related to boiler explosion has been reported during this year then this useful data will be reported to boiler manufacture for quality control and inspection purposes. V93.09XA doesn't give us much information except explosion on board. I hope it helps.

With regards to body area, if it is 57% of the trunk, but the trunk is only 36% of the body, wouldn't it be 57% of 36%? That means the total body area affected by the burns is 20.5%. Or if you are just coding the 3rd degree burns that would be 32% of 36% of the total body area, which is 11.5%. This would make a big difference if they are asking you total % of body with 3rd degree burns and change the code. Your example did not specify front or back of the trunk which makes it even less clear. Any examples of the types of questions they ask you on the test? Thanks!
