How to Cold Room or Walk-In Kegerator with Glycol - Kreyer Fan Units

When opening a brewery refrigeration power is important to consider, and upsizing your glycol is one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to cool or refrigerate whole areas in addition to all they do for your fermenters and brite tanks. So far we only have a dinky little 1/2 Hp Glycol chiller, but we were still able to reliably chill a 9x9x9 room down to beer serving temperatures with the us of a fan unit from Kreyer. Electric defrost is typically used in freezers. If the box temp is above freezing, try using the controller to close the glycol valve and running the fans continuously for an “Off Time” defrost. More efficient and smaller temp swings. Just a tip from a refrigeration tech. Love the videos guys!!!

hi K P from what you are saying, you should be running the fan 24/7? And just have the controller control the glycol valve open/close when it goes below/above temp?

Tan G Correct. As the room cools to set point, the glycol valve closes and the fans pull 35 degree air from the room through the coil (Off Cycle Defrost.). If the coil does not clear this way, an Off Time defrost would be needed where a timer keeps the glycol valve closed for a set time. Heaters should not be needed unless the unit is undersized.

What’s the construction of the room Itself? Just framed with 2x4’s, dry wall & spray foam?

2x6s on two sides, but yea. One of the walls also joints up with another business so it's double-insulated.

Hello gents, how do you separate the lines going to your FV and the cooler? Just branch off from the main line? and how does temp control work for each of the FV along with the walk in cooler and keeping them temps separated?

The glycol unit itself was about 1.5k - But our next one will be over-sized to fit all the tanks and the cold room and will probably land in the 8-10k range - The fan unit and plumbing for the room was about 2k and the insulation dry wall and FRP landed in the 2k range as well
