Follow up video of me planting these seeds: • Grow Bald Cypress Tree...
I show how I collect and store Bald Cypress (Taxodium Distichum) Seeds to grow Bald Cypress trees. I collect the bald cypress cones straight from the tree and separate the seeds. I show how I separate the seeds and prepare them to store for winter stratification. I also have decided to make some of these Bald Cypress seeds available for sale if anyone is looking for some to try and grow on your own in the spring

Thank you so much for these detailed video. Unfortunately, I cannot find the video showing whether or not any of these sprouted??? Did any grow? Is there a video? I'd love to see it. There is a tree in my town that will have a ton of fruit ready to pick soon and I'd love to try your method over the winter. Thank you!

I planted like 32 in the woods behind my house like 16 years ago all of them have survived so far except 4 they are various sizes too because of the shade some are 30 feet tall with a trunk as wide as a mens thigh while some are about 12 feet tall and skinny as a womans arm, I didnt have any problem germinating them they have a high success rate when they do sprout for surviving, I did stratify them in the fridge and planted them all in solo cups with potting soil as they sprouted. oh and this year the biggest one has produced hundred of cones and that one is in full sunlight so it only took 16 years to become mature to produce cones

I have a question. Do the seeds share the same characteristics of the tree, bc i dont understand how the dna is shared through the seeds. Is it completely random or it has the features of the tree.

Lots of tree seeds need to experience winter to be viable .There's genetic code that says hey I need at least 3 months of cold and at least 1 or 2 months of warm to be able to grow .pine seeds are the same . It's called stratification. Also if you store your tree seeds at room temperature they'll lose 50 percent viability within 3 to 6 months so it's best to just toss them in the fridge until spring comes then let them warm up for a bit then plant them .

Hoping u can answer my question. In october 2021 i planted a load of hinoki seeds in soil in a seed tray. I live in the UK so the winters get cold and into minus tempratures. I left the seed tray in an unheated shed and noticed half a week ago (january 2022) they have started to grow. Is this right/natural/ok? As i wasnt expecting them to grow until spring and still plenty of cold nights until around march time!

For me it is summer, and I was just now able to open the seeds and let them dry. Next seasons are fall and winter, during these months should I put thin in the fridge? Or should I just plant them now?

I live in Naples FL and Bald cypress are native here and we never get any cold weather. So I don’t see how cold stratification would be necessary at all for bald cypress. I’m in zone 10a

Today I spent several hours separating a bunch of seeds from their cones and just watched your video. I'm in Nokomis, Florida. It's late January and my seeds have already experienced our coldest temperatures. I wonder if that's enough to be able to plant them now or should I refrigerate them for a while? Thanks for your channel. I have one, too...totally amateur, no music or other cinematic stuff. It's under my name...Jim Koeniger.

I have also tried all methods for 3-4 decades. Found scarification and sticky seeds to be far too much work. I like the method suggested here. I hope it works. The seed coat will not be chemically broken down or weakened to assist germination. It will be informative to see if dry cold storage alone is effective. The seed coat will swell in spring planting, presumably the clock will kick in and embryo will activate quickly to push out. May now. What about an update ?

You can, just have to keep them moist all the time, The heat will help them germinate quicker, just can't let the soil dry out.
